Underseat fuel tank

I've seen several threads about crappy MPG's of our bikes and a fuel tank that won't get you very far. That's always been in the back of my mind. I've recently seen a website for an RC51 Underseat Fuel Tank and it got me thinking how to increase the fuel capacity of our Superhawks. I'm not going to spend the money on the RC51 underseat fuel tank, so I've decided to make my own. Going to use rigid foam to figure out the shape & size, then build the tank out of fiberglass. Since our bikes are carb'd, I was thinking of using a small fuel pump to pump the fuel from the underseat tank into the stock fuel tank. So, when the stock fuel tank reads low fuel, you just pump the fuel from the underseat tank into the stock fuel tank.

I haven't figured out how to make everything work yet, but after a quick look at it, I believe that the underseat fuel tank is possible for the Superhawk. It looks like there is room for somewhere between two to three extra gallons. I won't know exactly how much untill I make the part out of foam.

I know that you can just get a VFR tank or even modify the stock fuel tank. But I just wanted to go another route. I'll have to move or relocate some electronics, but that shouldn't be hard at all.

80's Honda Magnas had a design like that, with an electronic fuel pump from an underseat secondary tank.

Isn't fiberglass susceptible to ethanol though?

I was looking at a coating on the inside or maybe a type of bladder or, hell just use the fiberglass tank as a form to make the tank out of plastic. Already got the stuff to make the tank out of two pieces of plastic, then welding the two pieces together. Not sure what road I will take as of yet.

There's another thread discussing this somewhere on the forum, can't remember what it was off the top of my head, but it was about extending the VTR range. May want to look for it b/c it had some interesting points...

I tried looking for information before I posted. I guess I just didn't use the right search terms.
Here is the thread you mentioned. Thanks!

I have also seen dakar type tanks that use the void area on the sides of the tail section which would be way less obtrusive. Its empty space anyway

How about using a fuel bladder inside a simple containment box
