I am not so fond of my lower fairing on my 2000 VTR. I am wondering; should I remove it will it affect the fittings of the other fairings?

Wicky 02-18-2011 11:14 AM

No, but the sump will fall off

geekonamotorcycle 02-18-2011 11:15 AM

The sump? is there a way around this?

8541Hawk 02-18-2011 11:56 AM

:shock: :rotf::popcorn:

geekonamotorcycle 02-18-2011 11:56 AM

well I dont know

hondavtr1000sp2 02-19-2011 04:20 AM

:wtf1:....................

Your bike was not made with a lower fairing !

So dont you think it should be ok to remove it !? or are you joking ?

archaicguy 02-19-2011 05:29 AM

WOW

8541Hawk 02-19-2011 08:37 AM

Well I guess I'll have a little pity on you..... but do you really believe that body work holds engine hard parts on?

Yes you can remove the lower fairing with no issues.......

and yes there is part of me that hopes you are just joking.

Only on a Harley.....

geekonamotorcycle 02-19-2011 10:37 AM

It doesnt sound like good engineering to hold important parts on with a fairing. I am asking it is will affect the fitting of the other fairings. if you look at the picture of my bike I have a complete fairing covering the bottom but would prefer nothing down there. I have seen other VTRs with a tiny fairing down there so I was not sure if I needed some kind of placeholder.

saige 02-19-2011 11:11 AM

hey.if you decide you dont want it.let me know,we make a deal.

geekonamotorcycle 02-19-2011 11:32 AM

saige are you going on that north run this weekend? I am going to try and make it. This time I will practice outside inside outside

saige 02-19-2011 11:58 AM

I went on a long north run yesterday, gotta work the weekend.
If you go on the north run.stay in back and take your own pace.don't push it.
Slot of challenging stuff.
I took a chance on my bike.the front end is bad.I made it thru until the last 45 seconds before our destination.at 15 mph.bike came out from underneath me and had to take it to the ditch.
I have some experience but I still took chance on bad front end.
If you have no real experience on turns and lean,I would think about a lighter run.
Alot of peps on here would not believe it but they took me on turns than I could not believe were ever here.so please becarefull and do not push your skill level.

geekonamotorcycle 02-19-2011 12:00 PM

I did the North run last week and had allot of fun it was my first. this time I am going to go a bit quiker. I made a post about it on http://geekonamotorcycle.com What is wrong with your front end?

saige 02-19-2011 01:03 PM

lol what isnt wrong.gotta do complete rebuild of forks, change out rim.new tire.
im gonna bite the bullet and get new springs, valves, brace.i got some things i need but not everything.

i seen most of the video,i think they took us differnt routes,i was actually amazed.theres alot hidden back there.i went thru a tank of gas.

but.like i was saying.if you dont want that lower cowl, let me know,we work something out.

geekonamotorcycle 02-19-2011 01:07 PM

you should look chad wolfe up on TSB he does private work for most of the riders. In fact I am going to tap him for suspension setup myself after these tickets are paid off

The Superhawk doesn't want a lower. I have a slightly burnt one for sale.:)

Lower Fairing + ugly fender removed. Bike washed and waxed waxed.

8541Hawk 02-21-2011 09:41 AM

The front fender is actually a good thing to have. It keep the front tire for spraying or flinging stuff all over the bike.

Plus, as you're a Florida guy, you will loose top end due to the change in aerodynamics..... ;)

geekonamotorcycle 02-21-2011 09:42 AM

well I got a cool haircut from a biker chick so I gained 5 hp this week neways. the more I take off the more I desire a naked bike

7moore7 02-21-2011 12:21 PM

Aaaahhh! Front fender back on! Even naked bikes have them!

I'm just messing around, but without a fender looks awkward to me!

What brand of brace do you plan to use? I am new and thinking about one of these.

geekonamotorcycle 03-01-2011 06:36 PM

What are fork braces about anyways?

saige 03-01-2011 08:25 PM

it helps to improve the front end.more stable.with new springs, new valves and oil, best you can do,next to a swap.

geekonamotorcycle 03-01-2011 08:26 PM

wow does is really do what is claimed? seems far fetched for such a simple device

saige 03-01-2011 08:58 PM

yes, some guys on here has had them on their bikes.heard good things from having them on stock forks.

geekonamotorcycle 03-26-2011 03:12 PM

I am selling my lower cowl 70$+S/h or 50$+S/H if you give me your old lower bikini fairing. I will also trade a tail for it.

You will need to make your own mounting hardware for the lower cowl.

archaicguy 03-26-2011 05:17 PM

Gonna send you a pm on that fairing.
Scratch that. That fairing just doesn't look right. Most of the other ones I see are a little larger and look to be designed better.

geekonamotorcycle 03-27-2011 05:05 PM

Yah Im not sure. I have seen it occasionally on other superhawks online but it is not common

ttocsmai 03-27-2011 05:25 PM

are you selling the lower? I have been looking for one. I will also give you the small one that covers the exhaust and oil filter.
