rear wheel to match SP2 front wheel.
what year 900RR rear wheel works on the VTR, and im also looking for a SP1 or SP2 front wheel as well as a VTR compatible 900RR rear wheel.

i know from the fork swap guide that theres really no rear wheel that directly matches the SP2 5 spoke front wheel, but im thinking of eventually doing a 6 spoke rear like the 900rr wheel.
is that the closest match i can get? also what is needed from the VTR and what is need from whichever other bike's wheel i use? |
thats an idea. i know 8541Hawk has has what i beleive is a 900rr rear in combo with his SP1 front wheel. it looks good. better than the stocker 3 spoke rear.
also whats the weight difference between the stock vtr and a 6 spoke 900rr rear wheel? i want wheels that match better but not if it adds rotating/unsprung mass. |
I have a 6 spoke front and I think its a CBR400 one although this wasn't advertised on the ebay list, iirc it was advertised as a change for a CBR900 front wheel, 16in to 17in conversion.
It was a direct swap, rotors bolted on directly, no need to have custom spacers made. |
Use an SP1 6 spoke on the front and a 900RR rear 6 spoke...problem solved.

1. the SP2 wheel is 1.5 lbs lighter than the SP1 wheel so obviously the weight savings in rotational mass is helping to shave seconds off my lap times at the track.... :draggin: 2. my SP2 wheel is already payed for and on my bike. its not something im looking to do right now as i really dont care all that much, just thinking about future mods. i prefer lighter wheels over matching wheels. so bottom line is i want something that looks a little nicer as the rear spokes are much more visible than front, especially with the bigger RC front rotors.and its always nice to drop some weight, especially rotating/un-sprung mass. now i just stubled across this picture in another thread where "revelation" has what appears to be a 5 spoke SP2 rear wheel. so this was custom milled and fabbed to get it to work on the VTR swinger? http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-W6M8I4GY.jpg |
That is not SP2 rear wheel, its a Ducati marchesini rear wheel.
|
That's a Marchesini rear wheel, not a Honda stocker.
|
wow it looks damn close. does that just bolt right up?

a quick search brought up this japanese website that appears to be currently selling a few variations.
really expensive tho. i could have another bike for the cost of those |
I have a set of Marchesinis, they're half the weight of stockers. There were actually two models, street magnesium and racing. Mine are street ( I think ) The front os 3.50x17 the rear is 6.00x17.

How much did they set you back?
|
whats the necesary hardware to use a 900RR rear wheel? i think it has the same sprocket carrier and i know it has the same rotor mounts. what about spacers? and what years are compatible?
also will the rotors from and SP2 front wheel fit an sp1 wheel? i wanna get a spare set of wheels to mount my track tires to so i dont have to constantly pay for mounting before and after each trackday |
no body know about compatible years and what hardware is needed?
|
well i ended up getting a rear 94 900rr wheel for less than $100 so im hoping everything fits up from the vtr wheel.
i also got an RC51 SP1 front wheel which cost me way to much. weird how the front wheels go for 2 or 3 times what the rear RC wheels go for. so the 900rr and the SP1 will be my street wheels and the VTR and SP2 wheels will be my track wheels |
Are you after 5/6 spokes for looks, or do you want low weight? Because they are mutually exclusive...
Nope, the front wheel is expensive, because everyone keep stuffing them up, and needs replacements... CBR 1000RR/600RR wheels bolt up with swapped bearings, and are much lighter than stock and SP1/SP2/900RR combo's... |

and i got the match SP1 front and 900RR rear for looks mostly because they are my street wheels. my track wheels are the SP2 front and VTR rear for now until i can find something even lighter. your saying CBR wheels will go right into the SP1 forks and VTR swinger with only new bearings? and how light are we talking? |
