Raven Tail Section Thoughts

4 Attachment(s)
Ok so I got bored the other night and at the urging of one of my buddies I mounted a tail section off of a 06 R6 Raven that he had laying around. Obviously I have not finished it, I just got the subframe cut and rough fitted. It will support my weight but I need some longer bolts and some spacers and i still need to mount the electronics. Found places for most of them. I will finish it up when I get back from Iraq next year and then I will post the rest of the swap. I just figured that I would put it on here and get your thoughts on it.

Well, its been in the 70's all week so I figured that I would tie up some loose ends on the bike. I put all of the wires where they need to go, changed the exhaust, mounted the license plate and turn signals and put the right bolts in the lower subframe. Still have a lot to do, but this took care of my cabin fever for now.

It looks pretty cool, but for me I think that swapping a GSXR tail would be cooler. I like the look of the integrated turn signals on the GSXR.

I like it. I've been looking at a few different tails for my Hawk cuz the bulky look just isn't cutting it any more.

Now what are you gonna do to the upper body to slim down? Looks like a steroid guy who never works out his legs.

Just_Nick Aug 30, 2009 09:27 AM

Maybe? https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Ga...005%20%206.jpg

I like the look. the angle seems about perfect. if you have some pics from different perspectives be easier to give you better opinion.

Here we go: R1 rear end. Mount it and hook the Undertail exhaust up as well for ultimate awesome factor. http://www.techfresh.net/wp-content/...a_yzf-r1_3.jpg

It's been done... Frankly I think I prefer the R6 option as then you can keep any good highmounts and make it look good...

Just_Nick Aug 30, 2009 10:00 AM

I know it's been done, I just think it looks better. The R6 tail is very skinny, which looks strange when compared to the rest of the bike.

smokinjoe73 Aug 30, 2009 10:36 AM

Yeah, that R1 tail looks trick. I still think the RC51 bodywork is my choice for the SH. You can get the whole set (race) for like $400. Very stealthy.

Just_Nick Aug 30, 2009 12:35 PM

Did you also use the R6 subframe?

notquite Aug 30, 2009 05:58 PM

I Like it but as smokinjoe said, it looks a little front heavy. I think undertail cans would look sick. I am in the process of doin it to my hawk. with some custom fab for exhaust piping...words fail me for how sick it looks.

inderocker Aug 30, 2009 09:00 PM

IMHO, I think it's too angular for the bikes overall styling.

Like I said, looks pretty good.

Bandit00085 Sep 1, 2009 10:18 AM

I plan on running high mounts on it to fill in some of that gap, just not sure which ones I want. I did use the stock R6 subframe. They have a great integrated tail light for it that I plan on getting.

lip81 Oct 31, 2009 01:05 AM

Can you still add the rear foot rests?

Just_Nick Oct 31, 2009 02:10 AM

The foot rests for the passenger bolt onto the subframe. You might need the R6/R1 footpegs if the spacing is different, but they will still bolt on no problem.

Bandit00085 Jan 23, 2010 08:08 AM

Yeah I had the footrest. Just hadn't put them on when I took the picture. I posted some pics with them on.

swaptrex Jan 23, 2010 03:46 PM

how hard would it be to mount that so its fully functional? I'm looking for a new tail, but never thought about that route..

Bandit00085 Jan 23, 2010 07:24 PM

I didn't think it was too hard. I had it roughed in in a couple of hours using a hacksaw and a few other basic hand tools. If you want some more details I can take some more pics and give you a better explanation but everything is fully functional. I just haven't got the r6 battery to put in it yet.

Looks ok, It would probably grow on me .

k20/h22 Jun 29, 2010 09:51 AM

what did u use to convert from dual outlet to singel

Just_Nick Jun 30, 2010 06:49 AM

I think he cut the splitter off on the header.

uchi Jul 2, 2010 05:07 AM

looks good, the only think is that tail looks a little thin, other than that i like how it fits

Bandit00085 Jul 19, 2010 04:21 AM

Yeah I just out the splitter and cut the can pipe right behind the butterfly valve. By the way, cutting titanium pipe with a hacksaw is a real bitch. I cut an angled piece out of a sportster exhaust that I had laying around squeezed it in between the pipe and the can and used the factory mount on the can and the rearset.

what exhaust system is that?
