Gold or black wheels?

Just ordered the Q2's and was going to get my wheels painted. Which color, black or gold to match the brake calipers? The bike is black with polished frame and I think it would be too much black. The wheels are currently black with polished lips, which I don't like.
Any opinions?

7moore7 11-11-2013 04:25 PM

I would definitely go with a gold or titanium color. The later model year black hawks with gold wheels look trick IMO

NHSH 11-11-2013 04:35 PM

+1 agree

jerryh 11-11-2013 04:41 PM

Go for the gold

Jack Flash 11-11-2013 06:39 PM

Black, unless you're 65 and up. In this case, you can go with the gold.;)

bmidd 11-11-2013 06:41 PM

Lol Jack, just turned 45 but I think it will be too much black.

Jack Flash 11-11-2013 06:46 PM

Have you put any thoughts on any other color in this case ? Perhaps gunmetal or grey ? Or really create a contrast, white. A little more maintenance to keep clean, but, looks hot. IMHO

CruxGNZ 11-11-2013 08:12 PM

Or, how about a bright yellow? That will get ya noticed! I always thought an electric blue looked cool on a black bike too.

VTR1000F 11-11-2013 08:20 PM

Yellow wheels are faster, too.

jerryh 11-11-2013 11:30 PM

I saw where a guy had his rims painted as if sliced in half. Vertically, not in the same plane the rims roll. You could do half black half infinity metallatic silver. That's the color I painted mine. A bright silver and its eye catching

Actually white will go well with a black bike with few white stripes on teh bike it will even look more slick.

Yeah you could play around with those vinyl pin stripes all day. Rolls of that stuff are pretty cheap at auto parts stores.

I painted ALL of the circles yellow on my bike. Can't take any chances with that sort of thing.

Never go white.. my bike has white wheels... impossible to keep them white if you actually ride it

Are yours painted or powdercoated?

Reason I ask is my yellow wheels get dirty real quick, but because they're powdercoated they are deceivingly easy to clean.

insulinboy 11-12-2013 09:36 AM

Painted. Its a good sturdy paint though. I believe it was baked on but its not quite strong enough for me to believe it to be powder coated unless it was a cheap botched home job. I've scratched the lips of them up some changing tires

I believe the bike I'm trying to find belongs to an Aussie who purchased it this way. Might be a street fighter VTR.

Mike's bike is black w/white:

Thats a good looking superchicken you got there.. I really do like the way the 6 spoke wheels and USD forks make the bike look.

Edit: I wish I wasn't so lazy to take up a project like that. I just know I will get it started and be without the bike for 6 months because I won't want to finish it

7moore7 11-12-2013 05:02 PM

That's one's not mine, that's 8541Hawk's bike, or at least one of the paint scheme's he's run.

But a front end swap is relatively easy... you just have to do a lot of prep work and purchasing of all the components. The actual swap can be done in a day (if you go with a documented one so you know which spacers/bearings/etc you will need).

Or I could go with the Yellow Hi-liter look that my friend paints his race bike!

8541 Hawk's bike is not only a good lookin' Superhawk, but probably has the most perfectly tuned carbs ever :)

NHSH 11-12-2013 09:32 PM

Mike, we miss you here!

I live an hour a way and when ever I need help I dont mind driving back and forth at all... he also made my cousin 03 r6 running like new again. And mine.. who ever had a problem with him here really messed up..

^ ..+1, or 2, or 3. But back on topic, I have gold wheels on mine and I like it

kenmoore 11-14-2013 11:44 AM

Go with white, black will be too much.

The bike pictured looks classy, clean and well cared for.

HRCA#1 11-14-2013 04:36 PM

Sorry late to the thread but I bought gold Marchesini's for my red bike, I'll sent in pic's when the rebuild is done.

RobertLever 11-14-2013 05:22 PM

My vote is for gold or bronze

+1 Gold on red bike goes well

ahernandez74 11-15-2013 10:20 AM

Too many people have Black! Go with Gold. Gold is the new color to go with because it really does work with most bike colors...

firedog55 11-15-2013 07:27 PM

Black always looks "racy" and hides the dirt. I went with black.

VTR1000F 11-16-2013 08:29 AM

Have I become that predictable already?

bmidd 11-16-2013 02:18 PM

Had the Q2's mounted today, decided to wait and see if I can find a good deal on some 5 spoke wheels. I just think the 3 spoke rims look a little dated and won't put any money into them.
