Sort of makes you wonder if that guy who was making the SH into a supermotard wasn't onto something, no?

Wrong? It came off the Interwebs!

I think the review has it reversed. If it didn't, people would be singing the praises of the VTR's weight distribution, assuming the other numbers that were here:

http://www.msgroup.org/forums/mtt/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9125

were correct.

I'm sure someone has the correct stock numbers here.

Probably operator error.

If any, I'd say 53front/47rear would be correct. Can't see VTR having more weight at the back than V-star or Roadliner. And also, I'd expect 1098S to have more weight in the front - but I may be completely wrong in my assumptions.
Regardless, it seems they're all within 3% range - which means that rider's weight can play a big role. For heavy-weights (like myself) going from leaning forward position to upright - as a result of ANY wide bar conversion - can thus make a big difference. But because I am a complete ignorant when it comes to m/c geometry and physics, i guess I''ll have to wait till my new handlebars and clamp arrive (currently in the mail!), do some testing, and report back...

Or maybe I am just overthinking this whole bar conversion thing
Actually the stock bias really is rear 53% front 47%... Which is mainly due to the heavy stock cans and other assorted bits... And also weightbias isn't just where the weight is on the bike, but on which wheel it ends up due to the angles... So the engine ends up with a fair bit of weight in the rear...

If you are talking about my bike, there is no stock shock near it, and never will there be one closer than the next bike over again...

I have a F4i shock that was re-sprung/re-valved by Jamie Daugherty for my weight, but instead of having him modify it to stock lenght I made my own height adjustable mount... That's a definite requirement if you are going to swap the swingarm, and an improvement even if not...

Lower the front, raise the rear, build a custom underslung can, and add a cement block to the forks and it will handle like a dream J

According to this:

http://motoprofi.com/motospecspictures/triumph/speed_triple-1999.html

the ’99 S3 had a distribution of 46.6 / 53.4.

Just saying.

You´ve not drilled the triple yet, do you Danny?
One advice, (if i may) get the Honda plate of and drill the holes in that place.
It´s easier to drill them a bit more near the tank, like everyone does, but i´m convinced it´s not the same ride and it´s very important to get the right geometry.
Sorry about my technical english...
If you do so, your next dificulty is about those forks sticks, that will not rise up (they cant because the bar is on top of them), so if you want your front more nose down, you have to cut the bars in the down end.
Or you can just do a whole front swap as many did.
But one in doubht just look at the pictures and you´ll get the idea.

Also the SV:

47.1/52.9

Useless knowledge, I know.

I noticed that you drilled higher (closer to the forks) than what I often see here, Luis. I think Superbling was much lower, but he also used a different sort of riser. I had to go where you did because I got the stupidest risers ever, some bad-*** biker crap that looked good at midnight after a few PBRs…

One image is better than a thousand words:

See how the bar is right on top of the fork tubes?
This i believe is one of the main thing about getting an incisive position and not a straight up torse.
Now, i could really get it even more incisive, just had to get the rear end more up, like Tweety said.
Who knows, maybe some day, but this is so good that i confess i´m a litle afraid of ruin everything.

My clamps are also 50 mm risers, they´re Scar for quads.
Your Zeta looks good Danny.
One of the pain in the *** was related with the fat bar not having much room for the switchers and comuters.
You see, the dirt bikes don´t have many switchers, so they dont need much room for it.
But yours look better.
Please do reinforce the triple with some resin or similar, cause it´s not very thicker, and i dont trust it.

My riding position now is with my nuts glued to the tank and my sholders suporting a big part of my weight.
Lot´s of fun.

The triple is more than strong enough... And the riding position you describe is really what it's about, weight on your shoulders = weight forward...

Sorry Patrick but has i said, this mod is to be reversible.
Maybe in 5 years i´ll go stock form again, or maybe in 10 years the VTR will be a classic, and i dont want to regret doing this mod and not to be able to go on stock form again.

The triple can be strong enought Tweety but i recon theres no harm in reinforce it just in case of a bad weelie landing or something like that.
That thickness just boteres me... (this is not well writen is it?)

Well, unless you weld on it, any other reinforcements will be rather marginal in adding strenght to cope with that... So don't fool yourself, but feel free to reinforce it anyway you like...
