$250 for a !@#$ backrest?!

http://www.corbin.com/honda/vtr.shtml

Corbin is so ridiculously expensive, but I kinda want this item so my passengers will stop bitching. Anyone know where to get this for LESS then the price of a superhawk?! I'm assuming someone's gonna say Ebay, but I can't access EBay from work, damn you corporate internet controls.

Re: $250 for a !@#$ backrest?!

Hey Loco, have you tried E_a_ or maybe _ba_ or how about Eb__, or I here that they have pretty good deals on E_ay.....dunno, you may just have to bit the bullet.....See I didn't say it!! lol

I need the seat, but don't wanna pay $299 or even $259 on Ebay....I am thinking more like $140 ish to $160 ish is about what it is worth to me....

Loco 05-03-2006 02:45 PM

I could understand $100 tops, but anything more is really absurd, I'm talking just about the backrest, I already have the seat.

Galaxieman 05-03-2006 05:59 PM

Agreed, Corbin is flat smoking crack when it comes to pricing. $1k for a set of beetlebags? WTF over? I think I've got $300ish invested in rashed bags, fiberglass, resin, and paint, but I wouldn't pay over $500 for new ones. And don't even get me started on the seats. The backrest you mention is NOT worth what they're asking by a damn sight.

marmaladedad 05-03-2006 07:23 PM

They can price their backrest at whatever they want because no one else makes a competitive seat WITH a backrest (Sargent only has backrests for the BMs and the STs).

It wouldn't be that hard to come up with your own backrest, right? The main component of Corbin's is the metal rod that slides into the back of the seat, and then all you need is an allen screw to tighten against the rod.

revsperformance.com has a grab bar with a luggage rack for $118.00. You could probably modify a back rest with that.

I just got lucky, I found a backreat for 125$ CND. The girlfriend is really happy. It's supposed to be used but it's brand new, not a scratch.
Look at you local motorcycle forums, that 's where I got mine. You never know.

CNI Dawg 05-16-2006 03:47 PM

There are "knock-off" Corbin backrests on ebay for half the cost of a real Corbin.
Found out about them in my Cruiser era :D

OH....and those internet control guys have been here too!
We call them the "Internet Nazis"
No eBay, no streaming video (no MotoGP vids), etc, etc....

I broke down and bought the backrest for my wife. And while it stings to pay that amount of money for such a small item, it's worth every penny when you can ride for longer periods without hearing any complaints from the back seat.

blokeontheend 06-01-2006 11:22 AM

Just a thought - does your seat have the slot in the back to affix the backrest?
