After almost 2.5 years, I've sold my 2001 SV650S. I just didn't have enough time to ride the Hawk and the SV so I opted to stay with the Hawk. I hope I picked the right beast. Someone please tell me I did the right thing. The SV rocked and looked cool but the Hawk seemed more solid.

So did I make the right choice, or screw the pooch?

Yoy made the ONLY choice as far as i'm concerned mate, gives you more time to concentrate on the vtr!!

Definitely the right choice.
SV650s are cool - great motor, good chassis.

But the front end is terrible. At least the fork on a VTR is hghly tunable, and works great with some tuning. The fork on an SV is orifice damped, with no valve stack. The only thing you can do with it is a Race-Tech valve emulator, as far as I know. A poor compromise at best.

Sure, you can pitch it and install a GSX-R fork, but then you've only got ~65 HP - good, usable torque, but I'd take a VTR many times over.

The SV650 is an enigma. It just shouldn't be as great a motorcycle as it is. I never hear anybody who rides one say anything but great things about them.

What is it? the more comforatble riding position? The lighter engine must make it lighter handling. I've only spent about 1/2 hour on one. I liked it - but I didn't love it. I must say I was surprised by the torque it had. I rode it over Monitor Pass, so it was a real ride.

I wasn't an easy sell. I loved my VTR.

One other thing - I rode my friends bone-stock VTR ove Monitor pass one day, after I had been riding my well-sprung one. Holy crap - I don't know how he rode that thing!

you had both, rode both ... and decided to keep the hawk. must have been the right choice for you.

I love SV650's to death, fantastic machines. But I could never choose one over a VTR.

Come on man! After 2-1/2 years you should be able to figure this out on your own!

Nice SV though. Wouldn't mind having it myself.

I've rode an sv that a friend had for about a week while he was away and I will stay with my hawk. The one selling point that I found was the mpg's.

Right choice (yes, my wife has an '02 SV). The SV just has no balls compaired to the SH. I guess if that's your preference Thumper...:evillaugh:

Look at it on the bright side, you still have your VTR and SV's are still the cheapest bike on the market. Wouldn't be hard to pick another one up someday. Maybe the newer model? Or go big and get a GLADIUS!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Now in hindsight, I'm glad I sold it. Loved it, modded the hell out of it, but I no longer was in awe after a ride like I am with the Hawk. Just couldn't justify 2 bikes in the barn only averaging 3000 miles a year (last year only put 600 on the Hawk).

Anyway, now I can concentrate and enjoy the Hawk more.

And NO way in HELL will I ever get that GLADIUS!! What a horrible advertising campaign. Have you guys seen it? :rotf:

It looks like they are trying to appeal to the scooter crowd. Too bad the advertising looks like it was designed by a couple of Japanese 12 year olds.

I agree the advertising is total crap. I do see potential in the bike though. The rather large passenger peg mount "bars" and pipe ruin the bike. If the aftermarket can help it could be a cool ride. It has VERY similar looks to the newest Ducati Monsters.
