wats up im shane and i just got approved on a 99SH today, i pick it up tomorrow and im stoked, i have owned a 919, a few diff. shadows, and a nightster, im pumped on having a vtwin rocket. heres the dealers pics.

its got micron pipes, slim signals, and 8500 miles, i paid $3k

ok so i have some a question, i want to lower the front of the bike a little and i have read that you can slide your fork tubes up through the trees some, how far can i go without running into clearance issues or bottoming out issues? also can i simply unbolt the upper tree and pull it off to drill in for new risers?

anyone?

Why do you feel the need to lower the front end?

well im not a very tall guy by any means and i would like to be able to put both feet down flat at stop lights.

I would not lower your bike. Well, maybe if you are 5'5 or below but I doubt that. I'm not the tallest guy either, I'm on one foot or tippie toes.

i am 5 foot 2, and i hate standing on my tippy toes

General advice that you will get on here is to avoid lowering these bikes. This bike has relatively low ground clearance, so dropping down either end makes for scraping metal... I'm not saying don't do it, it's just something that may catch you off guard.

I'd look into starting by modifying your seat or even subframe if you're feeling ambitious... you can get a lot of height out of your standover this way without altering the geometry of the bike.

How about platform boots for the flat footing problem?? :D

Congrats and be safe.

You can go up around 10mm before you start having problems. Even then, if you ride aggressively you will touch down the header in right handers. ;)

And yes you can just remove the upper triple if you have the need to do so.

I guess I was wrong then, yea you might want too.

Seriously! My wife and I watched a woman ride into Cook's Corner on a Sunday morning about 2 months ago on a CBR600RR. When she got off her bike, she was wearing platform boots that looked like those but maybe even taller. She looked strange walking, and I have no idea how she shifted.

Welcome Shane! The stock seat is narrower than aftermarket, so keep that in mind if you think of getting an aftermarket seat. It may widen your stance, making it harder to touch down. I believe you could also get a lowering link for the rear.

well its been an eventful week for me. on monday night i trimmed my fairing to allow for some dirtbike bars, looks real nice. then tuesday morning i parked in front of my buddys truck and forgot about it, went to move the truck and crash, knocked the bike over. bent a clutch lever which in turn punched through the fairing, also broke off a mirror, have a friend who works at a honda dealer and he had a take off lever that he gave me for free. so theres that. also i mounted my dirtbike bars and after unbolting a few cables and extending my wiring a few inches everything went together. i will post some pics tomorrow.

pics as promised, they might sit a little high for some peoples taste, but i love em. the bike actually handles better, and its not as hard on my back and wrists, i have a fused spine so this makes a ton of difference, it will look much better when i go naked.

I am Interested in this Mod My wrists and hands kill me on long rides. Can't feel my fingertips after 2 hours. I have seen other forum members that have super bike bars is this the same sort of thing?

it is, superbike bars and dirtbike bars arent very different, its not a very hard mod just time consuming.

Wow, for calling yourself a newb you wasted no time in starting mods...and yeah, at 5'8" the aftermarket seats are a little tall for me.

Oh and for those of us that are a little short frame sliders are great for the occasional tip over, um, not that I know for any particular reason...

And I can't say I've ever seen a black one in person, but that looks pretty cool!

very nice!! How Much did you have to shave off the fairing to make it work? I took my front fairing off last night to install a new Eastern Beaver relay and When I put the fairing back on I could not get it to line up quite right and left hand turns knock the fairing into my kill switch ooops. I have to give it another try today. my patience is wearing thin on getting everything to line up correctly. But I am thinking you must have had to remove something on the order of a half inch to make the bars work?

Sounds like you missed one of the pins that plug in next to the head light and locate the fairing in the proper position..... ;)

yeah It was getting late I should have called it a night but wanted to finish it up and ride in the morning so I pushed on trying to finish it. mistake

when i read other peoples threads about doing this mod i was told u only needed to trim half an inch off the sides of the fairing, but i hated th shape of the windshield on the stck fairing so i just busted out some fine line tape and got a shape i liked, and out came the cutting wheel...................

so im torn......... i love the way this bike feel with the dirtbike handlebars, but i hate the way it looks! i want to go naked but i cant find a cheap headlight option to buy and still be able to keep my instrument cluster, please help.
