Project Superhawk "What is he gonna do this time"

Some of you may remember my famous quest to turn my superhawk into a Supermoto that I pondered over a year ago.
That project was quite a challenge, fraught peril and papercuts, with multiple people fearing for the safety of my life. However with much dedication and the advice of the amazing members of this forum, I ended up finishing that project with a bike that was nearly identical to a Husky SM610 in every aspect, except the mirrors. It was quite the success.

Now back to the present, in a new year, I once again find myself itching to begin a new project with the Superhawk. I may find myself turning to seek the advice the many engineers, their Dads, and any other member who can contribute insight to complete the project. Through my experience as a home-bred mechanic, backed by limited funds, and my sheer boredom at times, hopefully this project too can reach a successful conclusion.

A random parts pile.
What ever could they be for?

Tried mounting the gsx-r tail to the stock subframe, however that looks like it won't work well. I am thinking of retro-fitting the gsxr subframe instead.

Hmm, what could this be for:

Why do I picture you creeping around actually asking these weird "what have we here?" questions to yourself as you snap pics of the bike parts and unsuspecting neighbors later that night?

Just_Nick 01-09-2011 10:36 PM

Personal experience perhaps? :D

t-dogg 01-10-2011 07:11 AM

A gixxer tail and front end? You will have to put the suzuki sticker back on the tank!

Just_Nick 01-12-2011 04:36 PM

So I did a mock-up of the GSXR subframe on the Superhawk frame, and it looks like if I mount it using the top mount, I will end up with a large gap between the tank and the seat. I will remove the stock subframe fully this weekend and I will do another mockup, but I may use mount it using the lower mounts and a custom upper mount bracket. I just need to make sure it doesn't interfere with the rear shock.
I will also be mounting the forks.

Just finished chopping the old bearing off the stem. Now the stem is going into the freezer and the bearing will go into the oven for an hour before I press it on.

That's a picture of a non motard superhawk and a husky ROFL. Maybe I missed something, but when this all started there was a dirtbike front end going on that green superhawk.

Just_Nick 01-16-2011 12:02 PM

Since I am so good, the end product resembles a Husky SM610 in every manner but the mirrors.

As she sits currently:
https://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/fi...90/current.JPG

After this I need to mock up the gsxr subframe to see how I'm going to mount it.

t-dogg 01-17-2011 04:54 PM

wow I'd be surprised if those clip-on's work. Nice work!

Just_Nick 01-19-2011 09:37 AM

Alright, just ordered some 929 clip-ons, as well as some cbr coil caps, which will eliminate the stock coils mounted on the subframe. I will be mocking up the subframe later this week or this weekend.

Just_Nick 02-03-2011 10:26 PM

Well it's been a while since I updated, so I decided to do some work. No pictures today though, those will come tomorrow.
I finally got the 929 clip-ons, which raised the how I sit by quite a bit, which I am pleased about. I also got the CBR coil caps installed, so the stock coils have officially been tossed.

I also finally got around to the tail section today. This basically consisted of me pulling off the tail-piece, removing the rear section of the wire harness from the stock sub-frame, removing the battery, and removing the plastic wheel well. Since I live on an Air Force base, I left the stock subframe on there for now so it at least looks somewhat decent(they will say something if it's too ridiculous).
Tomorrow I will begin mocking up the GSXR subframe, and I will find a way to mount it to the stock frame. Then I can mount the GSXR tail-piece, and it should look a lot more modern with that tail.
It also has the 600 sticker, so they'll wonder why I blast by them with ease. :D Just kidding, a hawk is about the same as a 600.

After that I'm going to paint the front fairing and tank white with a red stripe down the middle. Should look pretty good when it's finished.

Also, I'm thinking of chopping the splitter off the stock header and turning it into a left-exit exhaust. And after that, maybe getting a vfr swingarm setup. Thoughts on this?

Just_Nick 02-06-2011 07:58 PM

Well I tried, this being the keyword, mounting the gsxr subframe.
This is what it looked like. See anything wrong?

How about now?

smokinjoe73 02-06-2011 08:30 PM

I feel bad for this superhawk.

Just_Nick 02-06-2011 09:36 PM

Haha, why?

happytrack44 02-07-2011 04:31 AM

Maybe sailing instead?

sweethawk 02-07-2011 09:44 AM

something different but sounds good. I am following this thread!!!

Just_Nick 02-07-2011 08:30 PM

So I'm going to have to find a different way to mount this up, so that everything lines up correctly.
