Its Not a Pink Torpedo...

Its more Yellow. My new-to-me 1999 Superhawk. Hadn't ridden in 10 years, when I wrang the snot out of a CBR600F3 all over northern California.:p This Superhawk wasn't even on my list, but it popped up for sale right down the highway and I couldn't resist. Original owners took meticulous care of the bike, it looks brand new. At first I was a little put back on the noise and vibration of the big V-twin. Now... I don't think I could live without it. I find myself thinking about the bike while I'm sitting at work staring at my computer. Came with Vance & Hines Titanium S4's, Corbin saddle, new Dunlop Qualifiers, Heli risers, Double Bubble windscreen. I put on Pazzo shorties and T-rex frame sliders. Stiffer fork springs to come (I've got the preload cranked to the floor now) and anything else I can think of. I'm a convert to the raucous V-Twin Club.:evillaugh:

That's a very, very nice specimen. Add a good shock and you're set!
|
Good choice. you won't regret it.

Any suggestions?
The Racetech spring calculator tells me I need a 0.895 Kg/mm fork springs for my weight (195#). This is far above the stockers (0.585 or 35% stiffer) even though the recommended rear spring is less "off" the recommended (16.4 vs. 17.8, 8% stiffer). Could I get away with just the fork springs or do I need to replace both for balance?

Very nice VTR you picked up! Congrats and welcome to the forum.
|
it's even the right color ;)
|
Isn't that torque nice?!!! :welcome:

Very nice looking Hawk. I actually just got my first bike and it's a 98 Hawk. Wasn't what I was in the market for either but the deal came up and I had to jump on it. I wasn't thrilled about the Vtwin sound either but it is growing on me also.

Welcome..

welcome to the forum, and thats a very nice bike. altho yellow is alittle flashy for me, it does look damn good.
|
Ah....Yellow. The best color.
Looks great... just my opinion but that seat looks like its from a 70's Kz900. |
Thanks all. I was kept my Honda Red Arai helmet for a long time, waiting for the next bike. But I really dig the yellow now, and being at the advanced age of 38 I don't mind that it helps me be seen by other drivers on the road. As for the Corbin seat- I freakin' love it, especially the stitching. Reminds me of the seats in a Ferrari. Comfy too- I only creep up to the tank when I want to.

There's nothing wrong with being 38 and owning a Superhawk ;)
Welcome aboard and nice bike!

Hoping to attach a sound clip of the Vance & Hines... but one can only use images...

Welcome to the club! We all know about sitting at the desk thinking about throbbing twins!
I'd say go with setting up the forks first. But the rear shock is a pretty sad unit. I did both ends from the get-go. A fork brace too. |

Welcome aboard and nice bike! Oh, sweet bike too. |
The cutoff is when I can't see, can't move, or can't get the leg over it anymore.

Hell, I just turned 42. Should I sell mine for a Gold Wing? What's the cut off age?

The problem is that when you get the front right it makes you realize how crappy the rear is.
