Building of the Awesomeness
ive been away for a while and recently decided to tear into the bike and go street fighter.

Looks like a pretty ambitious project. Bike week is what, a few weeks away now?
How good of a friend was the buddy that dumped it? Did he at least cover the costs? Personally, there is very few people I let ride my bikes, and its always a "you break it, you bought it" arrangement. -That, or i'm riding their bike until they fix mine... |
we had swapped bikes for a bit while we were on a ride and i warned him that my gearbox wasnt as smooth as the one in his r6. i didnt really mind that much since those fairings needed a bunch of work anyways. im just glad he didnt get hurt on my bike

status update:
exhaust: pretty much done. just need to trim the cans to length and finish putting the wrap on it Radiator: cut and filled the extra outlet, put a manual temp gauge in it, relocated the oil cooler, and ran the hoses to the radiator. Just need to permanently mout the rad. Wiring: ... i hate wiring. Its a mess. I have no clue where im putting the battery. Still have headlight wiring to do since im going dual headlights and have to wire up two separate relays. Do turn signal wiring, and rear brake light switch. Body: still need to permanently mount the sub-frame and fairing, make a passenger seat and pegs, and figure out what I'm doing for gauges and a mirror. Have to make an undertail for the fairing and battery box as well. Suspension: got the adaptor made for the F4i shock at work yesterday and got the spring and fork seals in the mail today. just need to bring the shock in to work and install the spring. need to take the forks off and install the seals. Deadline: 8 days till bikeweek... |

lol yeah i know. mostly its just that work bench thats a mess. ive taken the pictures when i was in the middle of working on it and me working is like a tornado. all the tools get put away at the end. workbench such a mess because i havent had time to organize. thats what happens when you have 2 boats, hot rod, muscle car, mud truck, flatbed, bike, and a dd. spare parts tend to end up everywhere. its an "organized mess" haha

Lol don't make it sounds like that. bought everything in cash over ten years most expensive thing was the 70 mustang at 2500. Bartered and traded for everything else. He'll I got the bike for mud tires a gun and 100 bucks lol. Why do you think this is being built on such a tight budget

got my shock all done at work during lunch break. '02 f4i shock milled two flats on the bottom end, made a stainless press bushing to take place the original bearing, made adaptor out of 304 stainless since all we had was 6061 and we didnt have any 7075 that was big enough. that put centerline of the holes 40mm apart with a press fit on the bearing, eibach 950lb spring, and racetech adaptor bushings.

You lost me. which one are you talking about? i wanted to find a way to use the vtr headlight but it was too deep and stuck out too far from the bars for my liking. A lot of the streetfighter headlights are cheesy imho, like the ones that look like faces. i think it cleaned up pretty good from where it was and how much i got done in a little time
I meant something like that: Streetfighter Universal Black Motorcycle Headlight Fairing LL29 | eBay It's not DOT approved, but it seems your setup wouldn't be approved anyway, or you can find one that would be if this is an issue. Just something to look into if you have any interest ;) |
Dude, love the bedliner idea! Also, FWIW, the dual lights you have on there look pretty good to me. I also dislike the strap on dirt bike face POS headlights. I'd actually bet your setup is more legal than those things (properly sized reflectors and more adjustable).
I think the red cable covers are just a little distracting though... they don't really highlight any "performance" parts and although very tidy for what they are, don't really add to the look. I personally would do something like paint the calipers red and leave the cables black. You may also paint your light housings black b/c you don't really have any other chrome on the bike. Nice look though! |

A BETTER idea would be rat fink style doing a burn out in the mustang with a mullet giving the thumbs up and the mustang is like a rocket ship with a zombie hanging off the back with one arm and im firing missiles at bowser whos riding a surfboard with rocket boosters flipping me off wiith a text bubble saying "you're whack" and above it say "mess with the awesomeness, yeah, dont do it" |

Well fellas, after a 2 year hiatus, I am back and FINALLY working on the 'hawk again. Kinda got side tracked with a girlfriend with a kid and the bike quickly went down the list of properties and ended up sitting in the garage for a couple years with work needed to be done on it until it was ridable again. Well, things kinda took a turn for the worse with the girl, and now i have all this spare time and money that I can actually put into my true love. Anyways, turns out the forks were pitted to sh*t and ate up the seals so bad that I couldn't get more than two rides out of it before I needed to refill the oil and made the bike so unbalanced it was unrideable and the exhaust mounts to the rear subframe I made broke after 200 or so miles and the brake lights were so dim you couldn't hardly see then because of the angle of the LED's. So here's a parts list and a preview of what's to come, and with a better paying job and overall better situation this is no longer an EXTREME budget build...
What's sitting in my room waiting to be installed: -929 front forks and triple tree -1000kg/lb racetech springs -Racetech gold g2r compression valves -Racetech HFR rebound valves -954 front rim -wave style front rotors -929 master cylinder and rotors -ebc HH pads -galfer stainless steel brake lines -all balls seals, bushings, and bearings for both the forks and new wheel -CNC brake and clutch reservoirs -aftermarket brake and clutch levers -Yamaha mt-03 headlight and aftermarket headlight brackets -got a bread board from RadioShack and made a custom LED brake light insert using bulbs and resistors from an ambulance strobe so I can't get pulled over for a "dim taillight" again... Trust me, that thing is BRIGHT lol -factory 1.1 rejet kit with the titanium needle -koso db-01r speedo/tach -stock header (the tuning to the exhaust system was a nightmare, the rear cylinder was running WAAAY to lean for my liking) I'm going back to the stock 2 into one, then routing one pipe back up under the tail split into two before the mufflers -APE CCT's What's next to come on the next eBay shopping spree: -rc51 rear swingarm (the sp2 version) and related parts ie: rim, linkage, brakes, sprocket, matching "wave" rotor - Tweety style rearsets -actual mufflers. I'm thinking the "gpr" brand/style I'm seeing will match the lines of the bike nicely -stainless rear brake lines -matching rear brake reservoir -aluminum "racing" radiator from eBay -"big bike" brand front fender -rear tire hunger -4° ignition advance -take the flywheel off and into work to lighten it I think I've gotten just about all the bases covered. Is there anything I'm missing as far as performance mods without being told to use the search function? Honestly, I'm all ears (no sarcasm intended at all, inflection on how you say things is one of the key elements of communication that is lost through text over the internet) |

That's how it was at the end of the last building cycle, if I were take pics of it now, it's still buried in the garage, but that it changing this weekend since I have all these nice shiny parts taking up space in my bedroom :) lol
