Inlet Restrictor?

I just ran across this article by a guy in Austrailia who talks about a restrictor plate between "carbies" and the head. Any o' you guys ever heard of such a thing?

http://www.billzilla.org/mybike.html

In early March 2007 I decided to do the inlet restrictor mod that the good people on OzFirestorm talked about, as the VTR's (as apparently many other bikes do as well) have a disc of metal in the inlet, between the throttle and head, to restrict the airflow into the engine. I'm not sure why it's there, but it reduces the top-end power of the engines quite a lot. So mine had to come out!

Thanks Nick

Nanny state is not the first image that comes to mind when thing of Australia. Mad Max is more like it!

There is a minor restrictor plate in the carb boots. It reduces the inlet diameter to the port by ~2mm.

I opened mine up to the ID of the boot. Not sure how much difference it made, but it felt good.

Actually I believe it's the same thing or similar as here in Sweden, where we have a rule for classification limiting them to <100 hp in the lower classification... The VTR coming in at ~102hp in the specs then had a restrictor put in to end up below the line...

Mine wiggled lose and fell of as soon as i could get at them... ;) And a few other bits and pieces ended up needing to be replaced, and I kind of lacked the exact spare parts...;) Well, I'm sure it runs almost as good as stock, officer... Not quite the same though...:rotf:

I had that aluminum ring in my carb boots as well. Had being the key word.
