dumbest.question.ever.

Okay, I just picked up my 2000 Hawk and took it in for inspection. I haven't really done anything with it since I bought it about a year ago. Loaded on the truck, I see the little chin fairing is held on with zip ties. This is the little stub of a fairing that tucks under the front of the motor. On the right hand side, there's a bolt but the left hand side just has a zip tie and I can't see where a bolt is missing or would go. Surely she didn't come from the factory with a friggin zip tie? Any info?

Negatory, there are mounting points. I think you can see the inside one on the e-bay link:

But I luv me some zip ties!

Still, a zip tie beats duct tape.

Ducati's come with zip-ties all over them from the factory; they can't be that bad! Strong, light, inexpensive, come in all different colors/sizes, adjustable, replaceable, weather proof... you can repair ABS plastics with them or hide wiring, they don't fall out from vibration and come heat resistant. You can even make a chair out of them:

And you don't need metric tools to get them off. Just a metric knife!

On the other hand, you do need duct tape to make a Hummer out of two Dodge Omni's: ‪Red Green makes a hummer.mp4‬‏ - YouTube

Zip ties rule! They make great universal mounting breackets and fastners!!!!!

Check this out, you can order the bolt if you need it too.

one bolt goes in from the front. that's probably the one they replaced with the zip ties.

sheldonsl 07-16-2011 11:42 AM

Thanks one and all. I looked at the left side and didn't check the front. If there's a bolt missing, that's gotta be the spot. My faith in Honda is restored.

Make sure the clip/s is on the headlight surround for the little bolt to thread into through the inner panel part of the fairing. And yup a zip tie can be used as a bodge to hold it all together.

I dont even have one of those chin fairings

sheldonsl 07-16-2011 04:01 PM

I'm not sure I understand what Wicky means about the headlight surround? That applies to the chin fairing?

There is on on the right side and one on the front to the left. You have to get on the ground to see it, but there is a small shelf on the fairing with an open space, the bolt is inside there.
