97 Super Hawk fuel shut off valve under tank

Picked up a 97 and the guy I bought it from was in the Army and thought when the bike was serviced for his move to Va the fuel valve under the tank was turned to the off position. He did not know, nor do I, which is the on position? Turned all the way clockwise or counter clockwise? thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I had a question about the fuel shut off valve under the tank. After posting it I noticed the similar threads posted below. I saw one which answered my question. But thanks for your concern!!
