Malibu/Santa Monica Mountains Hawk Riders

I just moved to Newbury Park from Nor Cal and am looking for other Superhawks to ride with. The Superhawk is new to me but I have been riding for 25 years not including dirt time as a kid.

I live in Thousand Oaks, and i also have a budy that rides and he also lives in Newbury Park.

KindredGhost 03-19-2008 12:01 PM

I'm down for a ride! I must give you the squid disclaimer though... i'm still new... so be forewarned. If I'm still welcome to ride with you guys, I'm game!

Sounds good! Would be cool to ride with some other superhawks. Do you guys head up into the mountains from Westlake? Do you ride on Sundays? My front rotors are a bit warped right now so I have to take it easy until the new ones arrive.

Ghost - I'm sure youd be fine, I'm no super bad ass and would probobly bring up the rear anyway. I'm still learning all the roads here and my bike.

So do you guys wanna set up a day to go riding? If so, throw some dates out there and we'll get one that works out for everyone!

I'm down, and as far as what days to go ride, i'm pretty much free whenever, so let me know when the best days are for you guys. Now I don't know if you guys are set on riding the malibu mountains, but if you guys want to go on a more senic ride with better roads, I know a couple of places we can go, but it's not as local.

KindredGhost 03-21-2008 01:52 AM

I'm down with that. Sunday's are best for me, and I'm probably gonna bring a buddy of mine who rides a buell xb12x.

yo! i'm in westwood (mainly on weekdays). havent had my bike up there with me for school in a while due to parking/storage issues, but hopefully soon :D. might just bring it up there again just for the hell of it haha.

bdizzle 03-21-2008 02:57 PM

I know it's not much notice, but would you guys want to go ride this sunday.

Moto Man 03-21-2008 04:00 PM

I'm down with that if your thinking Malibu stuff early on. I have to do easter stuff with my kid and I Like I said I need to get my rotors fixed before I head too far out.

If everyone else is down for somewhere else don't let me hold you back. Hopefully we might get some kind of regular thing going!

BTW: Where are you thinking of that is more scenic and a better roads? 33?

ooops, my dumb ass forgot that it was easter this sundy:oops: But we could do the malibu run. As far as the more senic and better riding roads, the 33 is awsome, or angeles forest hwy pretty good, lake hughes rd next to lake castaic and back down san francisquito canyon rd is good, and i think that about it for the big canyon runs, well within 50 miles from home at least.

KindredGhost 03-22-2008 09:23 AM

Hey fellas,
My s'hawk isn't feeling well, so I may be out until I can take it to the mechanics. I think either my starter is bad, battery is bad, or brand new r/r is bad. :( We'll see. Hopefuly it's just the battery, but we'll find out.

Yeah i think this weekend is out, i just got excited when i saw the weather for this weekend. But whenever you guys want to go ride just hit me up.

Moto Man 03-22-2008 06:27 PM

Yeah this weekend is pushing it for us all it seems. I just installed the new rotors and pads and have some uneven rub so I need to work that out before I trust my life to it. Hopefully next weekend will also have good weather. Lets try then.

And add me to that List for Morning rides!

Simi Valley and a new to me 2002 VTR1000

I really enjoy dawn Patrols in the SMM

I will be attending the http://www.sierrarally.com soon so I will need to get this bike sorted out under me.

Moto Man 04-17-2008 04:43 PM

I got my front brakes sorted now so I'm ready to roll on the weekends. I'm still trying out all the roads in the SMM and open to suggestions on where to start or meet.

I think the best place to meet up would be at wendys on wendy rd, it's easy to get to and its right off the freeway. From there we could go right to potrero rd, then go down the coast to mullhuland, and go through the canyons from there. If you guys wanted to go to a different canyon then we would have to decied what canyon then i could set up a place to meet. But as far as going through the malibu mountains, wendy's in newbury is perfect.

Moto Man 04-17-2008 08:22 PM

Wendys sounds like a plan to me but since I actually live right next to Lynn,Potrero I'll also suggest the Carls Junior or Star-schmucks @ the corner of Reino and Kimber. (34.171334,-118.955476 on google maps)

The route you mentioned is the one I have been taking so far. I have been have been jamming down Potrero then hauling up the coast to Mullholland; Then heading back home on Westlake (23) and looping back to Potrero.

Gregw 04-18-2008 04:07 AM

I haven't ridden it, but I've heard Yorba Buena is fun. Looks good on Google Earth at least. Starts (or ends) behind Neptunes Net.

Moto Man 04-18-2008 10:09 AM

Have you guys seen this site with info about a bunch of the roads in Malibu...
http://lateralg.org/roads/orange/malibu.htm

Its also got decent info on roads all over LA and Santa Barbara countys, California, the US and even Europe...

It's ok, it gets really dirty and the road is pretty old and bumpy.

PRTSMN 04-18-2008 11:06 AM

HEY GUYS WHAT IS THE SIERRA RALLY. I LIVE IN FRESNO CA, ONLY HAD THE HAWK SINCE DEC 07. LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO RIDE WITH AND MEET.

I know exactly where Carls jr, and star-schmucks is, but i just mentioned wendys if there are others goin that don't know newbury park as it would be easier to find. Also if decker to westlake is the furthest you've been, then we'll have to go further cause theres alot more to the malibu hills.

Moto Man 04-18-2008 12:01 PM

Oh yeah Wendy's is fine for sure. I've been as far as the Rock Store on Mullholland and checked out a few roads near there but not too much so far.

I can only do early on Sunday this weekend; If that works for you guys, what time is good? I don't mind an early ride but it looks like its only going to be in the 60s on Sunday.

bdizzle 04-18-2008 12:58 PM

I'm free on sunday. As far as what time to meet up, whats early like 8 or 9, even earlier is ok for me, just let me know and i will be there.

Moto Man 04-18-2008 02:39 PM

Anyone else besides bdizzle and me intrested for Sunday monrning?

lowell 04-18-2008 03:24 PM

I like early rides. 7 to 8 am and then ride some

Moto Man 04-18-2008 06:13 PM

I'm down with a 7am ride if you all can make it.

bdizzle 04-18-2008 08:37 PM

7am it is, who else is in?

lowell 04-18-2008 10:12 PM
