Wrong tires on my hawk?
 

I bought this bike a few weeks ago and noticed that it has Dunlop Sportmax D220 ST tires on it. The rear is 160/60 and the front is 120/60. I think the sh will take a 180 on the rear?

Are these the wrong size tires and will they be fine until I buy new tires? I am traveling out of town and don't want to take any chances. Thank you.

Also, these tires have 400 miles on them, should/could I sell them on ebay?

The OEM tire sizes are 180/55 and 120/70. While the lower profile will alter the bike's handling characteristics, I would be more concerned with the undersized rear (specifically for how it mates to the rim).

I am concerned as well. I am ordering some new tires today. I don't know why the original owner put these on the bike. I am just hoping that I can sell these tires that I am taking off the bike. They look brand new.

I am considering the Avon Avaros now. They seem reasonbly priced and I have used Avons before on another bike.

Off the top of my head, 160/60 rears fit sv650's and cbr600f3's.

I just ordered a set of tires and I should have them Tuesday or Wed.

I think they also come on the YZF600, and possibly on the Ninja ER 650

I just can't imagine why they are on my bike! The look small and i am glad this isn't the stock sizes.

I'm curious to know what a 120/60 feels like on the front (with the stock-sized rear of course). I hear you don't fall into turns as much, and end up with a greater contact patch everywhere but in full lean.

And the 160/60 will also fit a Hawk GT.

I have wondered the same thing in regards to the lower profile front tire. I seem to recall one of the late model Yamaha R6's (2005 maybe) wore a 120/60 in the front and some guys reverted back to 70 profile. Of course, there is always the MV with its 65 profile tires (again, from memory, but I am almost certain).

On a similar but different note, I wonder how a 190/55 would work on the rear?

The smaller rear would help in corner transitions.

I just wonder if the guy had done any research and had a reason for this size on the bike. If the smaller size had any advantage in cornering and etc. I also wonder if this affects the speedometer in any way?

Either way, I am going to change the tires this week to the correct size. I would have assumed if you guys have never heard of any reason to use these sizes, that this guy didn't have a reason to use these. They are more expensive than the tires I bought, so I don't think he purchased them to save money.
