Would you buy a new '02?
 

It has 2 miles on it, so it's been sitting with bad gas for who knows how long...

I have another question though, I was thinking about buying better carbs for it anyway and then doing all the exhaust and dyno work all at once. Are better carbs available, and will they help mileage?

Yes I would buy it and I wouldn't do anything to it other than clean the carbs. I don't think "better carbs" are available or will be helpful with the mileage. The best thing for mileage is a steady wrist and lots of highway driving.

I'd buy it, just to have 2, if price was right! I ride an 04 gsxr1000 also, and decided to hand the gixxer over to my boy for his 20th b-day, just because I love my SH that much, but yea, if price is good, grab it

I'm afraid to ask how much. If I decided on getting it I'd probably pay no more than 6K

Don't fear anything that wears shoes; if it's red then offer $4000 and if not then tell him that it would be long gone if it was. I bought one for $3300 with a couple k$ in extras which had 4800 miles and Ha! new tires to boot. If it's red all the Duc posers will feel deep envy and you'll motor along knowing you're doing everything right.
