Wiring trouble

Hey guys, I just bought a 1998 1000 super hawk for a go kart project I'm doing. Bike runs great but doesn't start without a jump and the battery doesn't start. The guy told me the regulator broke but the bike also had everything taken off of it except the brake light. There are many wires that have just been cut. I already ordered a new regulator but I'm worried about a short somewhere. Any advise? Thanks.

R/R a well known weakness of the VTR esp the early unfinned self-cooking version. Best get a MOSFET R/R

Wiring diagrams are in the shop manual, copies of which are posted in a sticky in the Knowledgebase section. You can determine the function of any cut wires there.

+1 on Wicky's counsel to get a MOSFET regulator.
