Who's got an Aprilia RSV?

I am looking for a ride comparison of an Aprilia RSV to a Superhawk?
I will be getting an 05+ factory.

Just put the Hawk in the classifieds and interested in a partial trade as well.
I know...don't sell the Hawk. I like it -but there's better out there also.

Tweety 12-21-2011 12:38 PM

Not currently, but I have owned an 04... It's on the short list of bikes I would consider buying again... Smaller and tighter than the VTR, much better chassi...

Matt_Hawk 12-21-2011 12:46 PM

...then why "have" owned?

selztoad 12-21-2011 01:01 PM

I have a 2003, and it is definetly an upgrade to the VTR , but I honestly have not gotten alot of saddle time. parts are hard to come by and you definetly need to upgrade the battery and starter sylenoid (spelling) but its a nasty bike :)

Tweety 12-21-2011 01:03 PM

Because I'm impatient, and likes to try stuff all the time... And since I'm not made out of money, one bike in means another bike out...

So far the one constant in my garage is the VTR... It's not getting sold or traded anytime soon... Partly because it wouldn't bring in half what i spent on parts, and part because even after playing on a newer, much "better" bike of whatever type, it still fells "at home" and "good" every time I throw a leg over it... Mine isn't stock by far, but in it's current shape it has yet to feel dated by any newer bike...

The bikes I "miss" and would consider bying back are the Mille and the GSXR 750... Both have that same quality of being "just right" somehow, at least for me...

Matt are you on the sloriders forum? There might be some local guys on there with one

pappysmears. I had that exact same model/paint job in the Uk. Great bike, at the time in 1999 it felt so special to own one.

Still have a soft spot for Aprilia twins, well all v-twins to be honest. I'm all for buying and selling and owning different bikes. I have no real idea why I came back to the Superhawk? Only thing I can say, out of all the bikes I have owned over the last 10-15 years it was the one I missed the most!
Most of my friends view it as a old dinosaur! Me I just like it because it easy to ride. The Aprilia Mille is a great allround bike too. I have a friend that owns a 2002 Tuono Racing, super low mileage immaculate condition all stock. When he sells that bike I will buy it for sure. Biggest difference I notice between the Superhawk and the Mille is the brakes! Powerwise its not that much as you think. Most Mille's put down no more than 115BHP at the back wheel some stock will go as high at 120BHP. I'm not knocking them, great looking and riding bike. Plus the fuel injection is a lot easy to program that playing with our CV carbs!

Good luck with your sale. Thats a great priced Superhawk for someone.

I'll check that out. Yes I registered.

The factory 2005+ Aprilia's have about 124 hp at the wheel.
That's just perfect for me.
I am looking for a razor sharp VTR with a tad more power- so I think this is it.

Well... that's spec numbers... In reality, expect them to be all over the place... Aprilia and Rotax (the company building their engines) are fairly well known for "handbuilding" those engines... So in reality, it can vary pretty much, but most of them are ~120 at the wheel... A few could potentially have higher numbers bone stock, but not too many... And it's easily fixed anyways... ;)

also the motors are supposed to last for quite a while just check the valves when you should and change oil ect

With regular maintainance the Rotax engines are more or less bulletproof... The wiring has about the same problems as the VTR though, the R/R is crap, the grounding is crap, and the headlight needs relays (depending on year)... Basically the same list of things as the VTR, swap in a mosfet R/R A.S.A.P...

Hey, it's an "older" bike design, just as the VTR, that's been only moderatly updated since mid 90's... So it has the same pitfalls... ;)

Matt_Hawk 12-25-2011 08:56 PM

Well...I have not had any bites on my bike yet.
I would take $3500.
What kind of bike can you buy for that now?
Guess the motorcycle market in the dead of Winter is pretty soft huh?

The deal with the house manager is that I can only own one motorcycle at a time...or I get to sleep in the dog house.
The Aprilia may just have to wait a little while.

Shut off the hot water until the house manager gives in. When it's about your bike...don't play fair.

It's a custom what?! Custom scratches perhaps? Apart from the Evo airfilter, the list is basically Aprilia's sales brochure...

Point taken. It is pretty much stock.

I spoke to him for a few minutes as he lives a few miles from my house. I have the scratch photos. He won't take less than $8500.

The thing is you can get a brand NEW 2008 or 2009 RSV at certain dealers for $8000. I've seen these used for around $6,000 with 5k miles in perfect shape and no scratches. They have no resale.

[QUOTE=Matt_Hawk;322612][/SOLD the HAWK 1/09/2012....no more hawk. QUOTE]

so no longer matt hawk...... "matt hawkless" or "matt no hawk"?

speedkelly@aol.com 01-10-2012 09:43 AM

I think "No Hawk Matt" sounds good? Maybe a moderator can help us out? I know a another forum I'm on they do that kind of stuff, can be quite funny.

Or short and sweet. We could just call him "Hawkless" sounds like some eighties movie?
