Brass Choke Fittings from Jack Flash

Fitted Brass choke Fittings to Carbies & vacuum Fitting to Front cylinder, Extended vacuum Lines from Front/Rear to near the Thermo Housing... Balanced the Carbs & Set Idle at 1200RPM.. Replaced Air Box & Tank.. Doth! I forgot to do the TPS.. off to the Auto Wreckers
Found a TPS Plug on a Honda Accord I think at 1999 model.. Same Plug as VTR has.. added 24inches of extra wire to Top & Middle terminal. Plugged onto VTR TPS (Had to raise front on Tank) Meter Reading 843 Ohms.. Used a flexible Screw Driver with a T25H Head
managed to loosen top & bottom Screws , Adjusted TPS to 508 Ohms... So you can Adjust TPS without Pulling Tank & Air box off.. Lucky.. Trevor

Got my fork seals from Allballs. Gotta work up the gumption to do these my self. Am looking to upgrade the springs at that time, and by then I will go with gold valves too. I think a full fork swap would be unnessasary for a man of my riding skill.
Shoot, almost 6yrs later and the forkseals and racetech kit still sitting on the shelf in the shop.
Purchased f4i calipers and mc, will go with new lines and do the front end upgrade finally, buddy of mine is after me to get on it.
I hope it handles midcorner bumps like the Africa Twin, which is unflappable.

Been quite on this thread :-)
Oh well, took the VTR out for a ride in the cold weather today, did about 1.5 hours till froze my hands a bit, but it was still a joy ride.
I keep reminding myself how great the mighty VTR is, such an awesome machine! Rode allot of other bikes, including KTM-RC8, BMW1000RR different Ducati's Kawasaki's Suzuki's, yamaha's and so much more, after all, I am still raving the VTR, something about it that makes me feel at home in every corner.

After we had a monsoon on Thanksgiving, I was surprised that today was so mild. It was cloudy but no rain and not too cold. I rode to the IHOP and got breakfast and then headed by the dealer for some Sta-bil. I took the bike over to the other side of the Snohomish River valley and came back on the river road. Too many slippery fallen leaves for the twisties but the main roads were all clear and dry.

Smile Boston Weather

No big ride but did get out yesterday. A blast to go through the Summer tunnel at 3 digits. Played some Texas Holdem at Jeffries YC by Logan. Then a stop at the Woburn elks for one for the ditch, avoided all ditches on the way home and but the old girl in the barn. Plugged her in to the battery tender to await the next Boston winter weather riding day.

Cut the excess length on the Tommaselli bars. Also had to back bore with an 11/16" bit to allow the bars ends to go in far enough.

I fitted a new set of Micron Carbon Cans to my Shotgun headers.

A fiddly job as the cans didn't come with any Spring mounts so I had the local welders make some up. Also have fabricated some temp brackets as I want to go riding tomorrow.

The Old Girl sounds right now with a nice deep note. I adjusted my Jack mixture screws and she idles a lot better now.

I have a new air filter and new sub filters to fit , but they will have to wait as I want to experience the sound when I am wot through the mountain.

Will post pics tomorrow!

November in Minnesota

Heaven is being able to pull the bike from storage, and take a long ride on November 27 in Minnesota! Near Chanhassen by Paisley Park Studios. Happy Holidays to my entire VTR 1000 Family!

Went for a shake down ride with the new cans out in the bush where you are able to explore the performance of your bike.

Here are some pics I took when we stopped for lunch.

https://imgur.com/gallery/ja9wK

https://imgur.com/gallery/XA71V

I have only made up some rough bracketry but it worked and I will refine the mounting system when time permits but for now I can ride.

The bike sounds mean and deep. I think some fettling of the carbs is in order though, nothing major just a tickle up.

It pulls hard but feels a bit off to me so I am going to Dyno the bike in the next couple of weeks .

I am not interested in what power I have , I just want it set up correctly.

How do you guys think it looks ?

I am am still getting used to it but it is growing on me and I love the sound at full throttle and on the over run.

I got asked today what sort of Ducati it was !

You should have seen the look on the guy's face when I showed him the key with the Honda logo on it.

It is different for sure , and that is why I did it.

Good looking CBR. Betting that can is ear splitting at full tick.

Will need to see that exhaust in person. Send me a plane ticket, I'll be better able to give you a proper critique, Not sure If I've seen it done like that, make sense though.
Is there a cross-over between the two pipes hiding in there?
Because I went through a fork swap, I have been looking at the details on others that have done the same. Looks like there is just a couple of mm's clearance between the faring and the brake master reservoir.
Looks good. I can see how to the casual observer that it looks like a Duc.

Went for a ride. Temp was 79*. Stopped at my favorite cafe for lunch.

Xeris,

There is no link between the two pipes they are completely seperate.

As for the brake master , yes the clearance is minimal.

When I did my USD conversion I measured everything in relation to the bars and their position before I started . I got a used set of Apex bars from Micky and set those up the same as the originals.

I was relieved that I didn't have to cut my original pristine fairings.

I am always amused when people think its a Duc, I have a few mates with them and they get the ***** when it happens.
Yes it's red and loud and I wouldn't have it any other way and definitely not a Duc.

I like Ducatis, I have owned a few .

The best thing about the VTR is that it is a blank canvas and you can turn it into whatever you want, and then ride it and use it without having to spend a lot of time and $$$ in the garage.

I've seen something similar in the past, but that was on a different bike, I think it was devil or Indigo... can't remember for sure.
Kenmoore, I have to be very honest with you mate, no political correctness ;-) I'm not sure that I like them on one side, seems too busy... a bit of deja vu.
I think it would be better fit if you had the VFR single sided swingarm.
But, I must admit, the mid pipes look like an art work.
Most important though is if you like it, then all is good.

Cheers mate

NHSH,

I'm with you mate, the headers are a work, and yes I'm not sure about the look.

I am thinking of taking the bike to a specialist exhaust centre and having a new rear pipe made up so that I have a can on either side.

For now I will ride and enjoy the sound, but I know this will get the better of me.

Damn this OCMD !

Whenever I need a model to test photo equipment for shooting classic motorcycles, I rip the fairing off of my '99 VTR. It doesn't have nice chrome pipes but there is enough mechanical stuff to test schemes for a coming shoot. I made it up to my VTR by cleaning off some road dirt, pumping up the tires and putting the fairing back on.

Thanks Wolverine,

I have seen that picture before.

It is similar however I don't have heat shields and the angle of the pipes is different.

I don't believe I will ever know what pipes mine are !

Got myself early Christmas present "highway 21" battery heated gloves and went to ride for about 2 hours late afternoon, low 40's to 30's degrees plus wind factor probably more like 25f. What a treat to have your hands nice and warm... can't give up riding just yet...

Just curious, why battery powered over bike powered? Arent you afraid of batteries dying and frostbite on the way home?
I have gerbings but only need them under 20*. Until then the handguards and these super cheap and easy to install grip heaters are fine.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-1...72.m2749.l2649
Under $7 to my door and super warm....

Joe, it's very simple I ride multiple bikes, having wires on each one becomes a big hassle.
BTW, I do have these grips on one of them, they work well for short rides, city rides like you do on a daily basis.

Did you follow their directions and install them OVER the grips?!? I had a similar set of these but installed them under the grips.
