VTR1000 vs VTR1000F
 

OK, this is THE most basic of questions, what's the difference between the VTR1000 and the VTR1000F?

I am 90% sure I'll be a SupreHawk owner by Sunday. Working with a seller in SoCAL on a 2000 w/ 16,500 miles, 2 owner. Both owners have kept a maintenance log, etc. The pics show a very clean machine.

Any gotchas, recalls, questions, etc. that would be suggested to be asked ahead of handing over the $2800 asking price?

Basically one is a road/race bike (vtr1000sp1/sp2/rc51) & the other (vtr1000f firestorm/superhawk) is a sport/tourer. Both Honda VTR1000's but 2 different bikes, Different frames, wheels, forks, swingarms, fairings, brakes, petrol tanks, triple clamps & the list goes on. There are only a four engine parts that are the same & thats it.

RC51 is VTR1000R

In US it's called Honda Superhawk 996
In Eu it's called Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm (or VTR 1000 F)

SuperHawk/Firestorm are 99% alike....except after 2001 I think the EU version got a larger tank & different cluster (gauges).

All Firestorms/Superhawks are using carburetors.

In US the racing version is called Honda RVT 1000R (i think) or more commonly RC51
In Eu it's Honda VTR 1000 SP1 / SP2

The RC51/SP1/SP2 are fuel injected.

The only big differences are between the streed oriented VTR Firestorm/ Superhawk and it's 'race bred' sister VTR 1000 SP1,SP2 / RC51 (RVT 1000R).
The only resemblance between the Firestorm/SuperHawk and the RC51/ SP1,SP2 is that they all have 2 wheels and V-twin engines... ( the first develop about 110 hp, the later ones about 130-135 hp).

I think RC51 is RVT 1000R or VTR 1000 SP1/2

SC36 is firestorm/superhawk

Actually the Honda model designation for the RC51 is SC45 and nothing else... The VTR 1000F is SC36...

The model name for the VTR 1000F (yes same both sides of the atlantic), is either Superhawk of Firestorm...

So...

Honda Model: VTR 1000F* (*= yearcode)
Honda Model Name: Superhawk / Firestorm
Honda's internal Model designation: SC36

Honda Model: RVT 1000R-SP* / VTR 1000R-SP* (*= yearcode)
Honda Model Name: RC51 / VTR SP* (1 or 2 depending on generation, not the same as yearcode!)
Honda's internal Model designation: SC45

All the others are disambiguations, misunderstandings and confusion... Nothing else... Then to make it fun there are also yearcodes involved making it even more confused...

I have no clue as to where I picked it up... But yeah, I have used it in conversation more than once...

Would you feel better if I told you I speak German rather fluently, can hold a halfway decent conversation in French, Italian, Spanish and Gaelic... And I'm working on my Croatian, not there yet though... Apart from Swedish then...;)

The VTR 1000 F is the superhawk.

The others are the VTR1000R SP1 and SP2. In america they are called the RVT or something i think. They are completely different bikes, they only share like under 100 parts with the firestorm/superhawk and those parts are things like bolts and washers lol.

So to answer your question, the VTR 1000 is the VTR 1000 F, theres only one model of superhawk.

If we're going to talk big words in English, let's get it right huh? I think he meant to say "ambiguous" or "ambiguity" both meaning "obscure", "having double meaning", or "difficult to classify". Adding a "dis" would make this word an "oxymoron" meaning "figure of speech in which apparently contrdictory terms appear in conjunction" rendering it an improper word use or not a word at all. The "ation"...another fancy un-needed addition. The closest (sense making) explanation of proper use of this word is to "make unambiguous" or more simply, to clarify.

I think the answer is that there is no difference between a VTR1000 and a VTR1000F.

I know a bunch of Italian cuss words my dad used on me when i screwed up, does that count? The fact that I'm stupid, yet I still retained these words after all these years might tell you something about the frequency of said screw-ups.hahahaha :behindsofa:

I also frequently type faster than I should so I end up getting letters mixed up in order, and I have problems with the way you guys use big and small letters... It's a bit confusing in relation to how it's used in Swedish...

So? I make do... I think you'd have more trouble making yourself understood in Swedish than I in a number of languages/countries...;) No offence, not trying to start a fight here...;)

That was a summer long ago when i was very much in love with an beautiful girl from Inverness... I managed to learn some basic Gaelic and to profess my love for her in Gaelic... I learned a few interesting things that summer...

One, redheads do have a slightly explosive temperament (Good, and bad)... Two, your pronunciation when speaking Gaelic is greatly helped by being more than a little drunk...;) Three, being able to order whiskey in the local pub in Gealic is more a hit with old gentlemen than with young girls...

Still it was a very interesting summer, and I still have a bottle of Ardbeg her grandfather gave me... It's actually older than me... And by that I mean it's actually not far from twice my age...

Tweety, I have the utmost respect for you knowing multiple languages! English is a terrible language with all it's multiple meaning words and it's "for" "four" and "fore's"! I wish I knew more than this complicated plethora of jumbled letters known as English.

There are a number of people on this thread that are claiming the VTR is only a Firestorm/Superhawk, & that VTR1000 is the same as VTR1000F.

Well i think honda would know, & if you would stop & look at the picture i posted in the 2nd post you would see large letters on the side of the SP2, these letters are VTR !

HondaVTR1000sp2, nobody is saying your wrong. When searching through the "for sale" ads here in the states, the Superhawk is often the VTR1000/VTR1000F, as most owners only see the VTR1000 on the side and don't know the true designation.

The RVT1000/VTR1000 SP1/SP2 owners, here in the States, know their bike as the RC-51 and title it as such when posting it for sale.

We here on the SHForum are a more informed group of individuals, because we know that to order parts for our bikes abroad, we must know and be able to recognize the difference between the VTR1000F and it's brother VTR1000/RVT1000 SP1/SP2.

What kills me in this discussion is that the answers are given, again and again and again, and yet there are still posts that have the words "i think the difference is". READ THE THREAD FROM THE BEGINING, SEE IF THE ANSWER IS GIVEN! QUIT GIVING HALF-ASSES ANSWERS. It just confuses things and makes you look dumb.

It was made after plenty of informative posts with actual Honda information.

He notes the VTR1000R SP1 and SP2, and then says that the VTR1000 is the VTR1000F.

I just wish people would read the OP in it's entirety, maybe 2 or 3 times, or as many needed for them to understand the question that is being asked, and THEN provide an answer that is relevant to the question asked. The other day Tweety promptly and correctly answered a question. 2 follow on poster didn't answer the question at all, but gave other suggestions, while good suggestions, were not related to the question being asked.

I'm all for fooling around. The PWNT is awesome. I love the banter. I love the comraderie. I love being here. However, when someone asks a legit question, give a legit answer. GO TO FUCKING WIKIPEDIA if you have to, COPY and PASTE an answer. It'll probably be more correct than some of the "guesses" that get posted. OR, just don't answer at all, if you are not sure or don't have some practical working knowledge of what they are asking. This is my Modus Operandi, if I don't know, i don't answer, but i come back to read the answers from the people who do know and who have done it.
