VTR Exhaust weight
 

Can somebody tell me how much do the standard exhaust cans weigh on the standard VTR?

Just the standard/stock cans, without the pipes

a about a billion pounds.

actually I think it is about 20lbs, 10 a side.. Whatever it is, it is a LOT, by far the heaviest thing that can be easily replaced on the bike.

I'm getting a VTR in two days and the guy has carbon cans mounted (high mount) and he also has the original cans.
And I need to ship them from there, to myself, and I wanted to know the weight si I can calculate the costs...

Just FYI "without pipes" can mean several things... The stock cans and midpipe is one unit, welded together, that separates at the headers, another thing to consider, so the package will also be quite large in size... Dunno how it works in the us, but here that would definitely increase the price...

And yeah, 20 pounds or bit more is about right...

I just shipped a set of Yoshi stainless cans. The mid pipes are welded to the cans on those also. I ended up using a 40"x10"x8" box made for a case of 48" light bulbs. It was the only sturdy box I could find to fit the 34" of exhaust into. Total package shipping weight was 19lbs. Cost about $30 USPS from Ohio to Utah.

Looking at the pic, the mounted exhausts seem to be stock ones, and the cans don't seem to be welded to the midpipe...

the bike actually has the carbon cans mounted on it..

btw can I remove the rear foot pegs & keep the exhausts in high mount?

And e-bay seems to consistently list $30- $35 shipping for stock VTR cans so I'd bet on that.

where I'll be shipping it from if it's bellow 10 kg (10kg per can), i'll pay 8 euro for the items to be shipped.

Well... You can believe me or not... The choice is yours... :rolleyes:

But the fact remains this, the stock pipes are welded to the midpipes... They are not highpipes... The stock pipes are stainless and stupendoeusly heavy... This combined with their size makes them very expensive to ship...

The one's mounted in that picture are not the stock pipes... Or at least not in stock configuration... It looks like it could be a re-worked set of stockers, but why would anyone go through that ordeal to put those leadweight back on baffles me?!

Yeah, you can most certainly keep the highmounts without rear footpegs... Might need a set of shorter bolts to swap out the long one's holding both pegs and exhaust though... Any decent hardware store should have that...

BTW to save you money, why not bring the needed tools, and swap the cans on site? Then either ship the lightweight carbon cans, or stick them in a big backpack and save yourself the hassle? The tools needed are few, and the time and effort is rather minimal too... Plus they are visibly shorter, so they should fit...

Tweety I agree with you, i know how stock cans look and I know they're welded to the mid pipes, but in the pic, those mounted stainless exhausts look exactly like the stocks...

why would someone go to the trouble to modify them to get 'em high mounted, it's beyond me...

but i'll leave the lighter cans on the bike, I don't wanna fiddle with changing the exhausts on site...

I'll stick with the 8 eur bill for shipping and save me the trouble of changing the cans on site and saving 2 eur..

regarding the footpegs, that's exactly what I was refering to. I figured I'll need a shorter bolt to make up for the space occupied by the footrest

my only rear concern is regarding the front fairing..

I'm a noob but it seems to me that front left & right fairing has a slightly different color. The tank & tail seem a warmer yellow, while the front left/right seems to be a colder tone of yellow.

bike also has steering damper.

Also I've seen a bit of space between the top side of the headlight and the fairing above it.

I don't care much if it's been repainted (which i think it has),as long as it rides ok...and it's problem free...
I understand that it had its steering bearing changed also (I also know that this usually gets changed on the VTR).
It also had changed the chain kit, sparks, oil (oil has 3000 km onboard).
bike has xenon (HID or whatever they're called) and alarm.

Well... Considering that the fairing is usually a 3 piece thing, and that's a one piece, I'm pretty certain it's an sharkskins race piece... And seeing as the seller isn't supplying the stock pieces it's most likely a replacement for a busted stock fairing...

looking at the pics it seems to me the front is a 3 piece...

On stock superhawks there is a small section above the headlight and that is part of the auxiliary light. On the pics it's difficult to tell, but appears to be a one piece.

Also, if that hawk is running an HID light, it's in the stock reflector/housing and so will have very erratic output. In other words, worse than stock unless you want to be blinding all those cars that are coming at you... The reason for this is that the filament of the bulb is in a different position from a regular light and so doesn't reflect properly.

Edit: it also looks like he's already got the passenger footpegs off in that second pic

7more7 : true, now i've noticed that in that pic the pegs are off.
those were older pics, in the recent ones, the pegs are on.

Though it is odd...

I would agree... could just be the lighting.

Or, it could be that the images are mixed up old and new... And that the bike at some time have had the fairings replaced...

That can mean that it now have a sharkskins one-piece... Or that it now have the stock fairings... Depending on if the seller crashed and needed replacement, or if he was anticipating a crash, ie went too the track...

Either way, I'd say check the bike out in person before making a deciscion, and ask him a lot of questions...

I got the bike.
Front fairing is in one piece.
Bike runs fine.
Will post some pics later :)
I've got some crappy tyres..hope I can change them soon
