the VTR can be a really good track bike! I felt pretty silly with new leathers fresh paint and flashy exhaust, so I had to ride the piss out of it! I can't say enough about how much I love that bike.

NIIIIIIIIICE!!!!

There's something to show the grand kids one day

You done any dyno tests??

RC996 06-06-2005 12:59 PM

Not yet. But I can redline in 6th gear on the front straight! I was gobblin' up Ducatis (916, 996 and 999), I caught and passed an RC51 on the front straight and I know he was trying! I was also getting by a lot of i4 literbikes on the brakes and with corner speed. I'm moving to the A group and going back to school next time.

Valentino Rossi never feels bad for riding a bike with fresh paint and a pristine exhaust system. He just smokes everybody with a smile. Seems to me that, except for some lipstick smudges, his leathers are always pretty shiny too.

I got off the track a couple years ago. It's nice to see someone else having fun with it.

The bike looks sweet. always good to see a hawk rider with a knee down. I didnt want to take the chance and put my hawk on the track so I got a cbr600 track bike for that.
What kind of work do you have done to your hawk?
any other pics?

RC996 06-07-2005 08:09 AM

I still need to get off the bike a little more.
I wanted to build the bike that I thought Honda should have built. the result was a lot better than I expected.
I don't think I could like a 600 any more after having the midrange grunt of the VTR. My friend bought an R6 track bike and kept his RC51 for the street. It used to be close, now it's just "seeya"!

I was thinking about a track dedicated bike, but bought track bodywork instead and have the best of both worlds, IMO.

I posted other pictures under "My work in progress" in "Member's rides."

NICE!!! Glad you had a great time & kept that sweet paint & Ti off the asphalt!

I am impressed. How much HP do you think you have at the rear wheel?

RC996 06-09-2005 08:37 AM

I have to get to the dyno. Hard to do because it's 1.5 hours away and only on Saturdays.

Estimate for the Stage 1 build is 118-120 RWHP. I'm sure it's close to that. I did the full stage 1 development with pistons, cams, valves, porting, flywheel, decking the heads, race ignition, full exhaust, etc.. Track days at sea level require race gas to prevent detonation.
