These things are beasts!
Set me in my place yesterday. Was starting to get a little too cocky while following grandma and decided to pass. Well it wasn't a good place to pass which was stupid on my part but I figured as slow as she was going it wasn't a bid deal. As soon as I got next to her, another car came around a turn towards me. I down shifted and she stood up. Settled it back down and turned back into my lane. I will now be back to just cruising instead of riding aggressively. My confidence was getting a little to high. I needed this. O.K. go ahead and beat me up now. Tim

You messed up, and apparently gained an learning experience without breaking anything, bones or otherwise, so all in all a good thing... Just remeber it, and instead of "just cruising" or being agressive, learn how to ride the bike semi-agressive, with control... A really good tip is to learn the bike and your limits on a track... It can help in a tight situation on the road, it's a lot of fun and you then know what revs to avoid downshifting too, cuz making the VTR wheelie isn't very challenging... |
Taking a msf riding course are the book proficient motorcycling are good things to do. A lot about bike safety riding but a lot more about safe riding and most common accidents statistically and how to avoid or deal with them. Really valuable no matter how experienced.

Ha ha, I sometimes do that on purpose just to mess with Grandma! Second gear wheelies aren't always possible but at least it makes a heck of a sound.

I think grandma & myself had to change our drawers. I know it was stupid on my part but that woman shouldn't have been anywhere near a car.

Did you shift into 1st? I mean I can not get the bike to come up in 2nd unless I dump the clutch at high RPMs.
|
My bike will come up in 1st or 2nd without the clutch given a good dose of throttle and a tug on the bars. (well 1st with just too much throttle, no tug needed)
I do have a 43 tooth rear sprocket so that helps, and you don't want to lean forward as this weighs down the front. My bike's engine is stock except for the exhaust and ccts. |
yeah, downshift to 1st.
|
nice! glad you made it through ok.

2nd gear can come up easily with a little clutch and throttle blip. I have been practicing, it's quite a bit different from a first gear clutch/blip. The idea is the same but the technique is quite a bit different. keep up the good work!:D
