Tank bag or soft luggage and saddlebags
 

Anybody have any input on luggage? What to buy, what not to buy. The good the bad and the ugly.

Currently I'm looking at Firstgear tank bag but want your input.

I love magnetic tank bags, mine is extensible but I can't see my gauges when in full extention. On the long haul I rest my chest on it, feels good. I like the backpack straps too, it's convenient to haul it around as a backpack.

I have the Cortech sport saddlebags and super mini tank bag. I had magnetic bags for my Hawk GT, but didn't like them during fill-ups because they scratched the tank when I flipped them upside down. The strapped bags are nice because you can just unbuckle them and flip them over. The saddlebags are awesome. I had them on my Hawk GT as well and they are quite big. Some people place the straps under the seat, which I found to be quite tight when replacing the seat, and put the bags even closer to the exhaust. There is a thick piece of neoprene that goes between the body and the bag on all Cortech items. There is also a tailbag that connects to the saddlebags as well, but I don't have it.......yet.

I have the Dowco Rally Pack that I got from Chaparral. I have the magnetic
tank bag, saddlebags and tail bag for around $120.00. They look good
and hold a lot of stuff.

I have the two Icon tank bags. The large one works great for an overnight trip, while having the small one for day trips is great.

I love my Wolfman tank bag. Holds a map with enough space to carry nearly a fullface lid. I would consider some Givis Saddle bags if i could find a color that i liked...It is to bad that the Corbin bags dont have a lot of room they look relly cool.:)

yeah ebay, overstock stuff for a fraction of the cost, got some dealer closet out name brand stuff, tank bag and saddle bags (medium to clear exhaust) for $50 shipped brand new

with the tank bag and small saddle bags i have 5 days worth of clothing, extra tools, 1/2 gallon of gas:lol: , food, water, toiletries, etc, eveverything minus the tent lol for a 10 day trip

I've been using this Tank Bag for three years now and am very happy with it.
It's magnetic (with a safety strap that I've never had to use, even at 130 plus, without a fairing no less )

It's sold by a Canadian company called MotoPak and is very well made.

The model I have is the GT35 but I only ever use the bottom half, it's like the old Eclipse Tank Bags from 20 years ago and made extremely well.

As you can tell I really like it and highly recommend it.

I recently bought a Givi T439 tail bag which fits on the pass. seat just perfectly. After researching this I discovered that this is the same bag as the Firstgear Silverstone tail bag (at least I think it is). A bit pricey but it is a pretty nice tail bag if that is what you are looking for. I also have an older Joe Rocket Blaster magnetic tank bag that has been through plenty of abuse and is still holding up well. It stays put no matter what!

SuperCheap on the SuperBling: tankbag and for a tailbag get a softcase cooler from walmart which is waterproof of course. Plus, when you get there unpack your stuff and repack with your favorite beverage! :) I use a tie down to secure it to the rear seat.

I would only use magnetic, i love mine. The clear area on top gets really scratched when you crash though, the bag flew like 10 feet when i crashed. I dont plan on doing that again :)

+1 for the Cortech saddle bags, seem to fit most anything.
You should consider applying a clear protector to your bodywork though, even with the soft padding on them they will leave a mark like anything else. Same with the tank bag.
