Swingarm damage, need some advice. (pics)

I'm doing some cleaning on a rather new to me Superhawk, about 18 months. I know I should have seen this earlier, but I need some advice on whether or not this is safe. The gouge lines up directly with the sprocket nuts so I'm thinking the previous owner had something not tightened. What so you guys think, rideable or replace?

My vote would be to replace - Given that the swingarm is hollow, that is a major compromise to the strength of a critical component.

Replace with a nice used one..... I just sold one for $40.. there are more in that range... Replace

:iagree: That's at least halfway through...

Yeah why chance it? New swingarms are cheap on ebay and probably even cheaper if you buy from someone on here.

replace it or upgrade to something thatll make the bike more rigid :)

IIRC there's a few SP-2 or CBR900RR brace threads out there.

My first thought is "yipes". Still, it's probably ok. I'd ride it as-is until you can find another one cheap (if it's a big deal to you).

Well its -20C here right now with a foot of snow on the ground and another foot on the way. I won't be able to ride it for at least another 6-8 weeks and its already in pieces for painting and cleaning so now is as good as time as any to do it. I already have a good line on one, this place is great! How hard is it to change? Any special tools required?

I got a extra swingarm, $40.00 plus shipping seems like a fair price... PM' me

No special tools per se, but you will need to take the weight off of the swingarm to do it (and this can't really be done with regular rear stand cause that uses the swingarm). Hang it by the subframe to the rafters or anything that can hold 400lbs and start unbolting!

Thank, I know my Honda quad needs a special socket to get off the Swingarm nut, glad this doesn't.

Holy crap! I wonder what caused that? Did he just put too long of a bolt in there? If im not mistaken the whole bracket for the chain guard is missing so it had to have been something pretty rigid.
