SuperChicken III is in for Custom Paint

SuperChicken III is now in the paint shop (MadMic Customs of Smyrna, GA).

To document the process, I created a page to show the initial stages of the process and to show a few samples of Mickey's work:

The Process Begins

Q for you: Why didn't you use furniture stripper on the tank? Looks like you've gone to a lot of trouble to sand/grind it down to bare metal - wouldn't stripper have saved you a few hours there? A few years back I used stripper on the wheels and the paint literally fell off.

I think I've seen this bike as an ebay item from Florida. Correct?

Can't wait to see the finished product.

I used Aircraft Paint Remover during the initial stages, which usually works like magic, but the weather was very cold that day (35 degrees F) and affected negatively the reaction of the paint remover. Thus, I ended-up with hours of labor--due mostly to the fact that the guy who painted the bike before he sold it to me was a knucklehead--used layer-upon-layer of primer and some weird white base-coat, not to mention that he airbrushed-on those cheesey and poorly executed stencil-pattern flames.

Even so, Mike McCormick of MadMic Customs finished what I started, and the tank is now smooth as a baby's bee-hind. :) (See the photos that I added to the page today.)

I also added to the page more samples of Mickey's of work. He's a very talented and very friendly guy. Thus, I look forward to seeing the finshed product.

cheers,

Yes, I located the VTR on eBay and flew to Florida to buy it. I won't launch into a "rant" here about fraud on eBay, but will note that the guy lied his ass off about the condition of the bike--as people are inclined to do on eBay.

All that aside, SuperChicken III is now well on the way to being the bike I envision, and I too look forward to seeing the finished product. (Mickey is a true talent and a true person.)
