studders when i try to clutch a wheelie in second.

im not sure if it has to do with my new exhaust setup, the jetting, carbs just being messed up in genereal or something in the engine. when i try to clutch it up i bring it to about 8500 or 9000 rpm doing about 30mph and the wheel will come off the ground then the bike kinda bucks. i really dont have any idea what it could be.

Operator error

i don't believe so, I was able to do a few no prob then ever since that day it starts to come up the drops rpm then they go back up and back down while my hand is still on the throttle.

You shouldn't have to rev up to 9000 to do a wheelie. It's probably your jetting with the new single pipe. You should be able to pull up the front with 5500 rpm.

BlackHawk996 08-20-2008 11:20 AM

how fast do you go in second when u start the wheelie? my dad pointed out it may be spark plugs are going bad or it may be dumping to much gas.

haknslash 08-20-2008 12:59 PM

I rarely clutch them up but I did try it in second and it seemed I only had to blip the throttle a tiny bit. It might of landed around 6k-7500k maybe. Wasn't really watching the tach know what I mean lol.

I haven't had any studder issues so I'm of no help to ya.

BlackHawk996 08-20-2008 01:59 PM

it was fine one day then the next day it literally started doing this. if i power up in first its fine. last night i tried the second gear clutch up and i think i was in second but it came up no problem once and i didnt rev it that high either. this is confusing the hell out of me.

drew_c14 08-20-2008 03:04 PM

if you doing it with that many rpm's you might be hitting the rev limiter

BlackHawk996 08-20-2008 05:58 PM

no because i bring up to 9000 or so then let the clutch go it prob spikes back up to 5000 then bucks

Could be your spinning the rear tire and not knowing it. What kind of tire are you running and how old?

996 08-20-2008 07:43 PM

the slower you're going the easier it is to clutch wheelie. I think I usually start between 20 to 50 mph in 2nd. I like to balance 2nd gear then switch to 3rd.

FTMS 08-21-2008 05:34 AM

Could your clutch be slipping? Does the bike shutter more when it is cold or hot?

Tweety 08-21-2008 08:31 AM

Well with those revs and dumping the clutch I'd say it's highly likely that it's a slipping clutch... It's not really sposed to be handled that way you know...

If I clutch up in second I'd say I'm at 5k-6k... possibly 7k at the most and that's more than enough to bring it up with ease...

BlackHawk996 08-21-2008 02:34 PM

i was thinking it may be spinning the rear tire now. im running maxxis presa sports and they have about 6500 miles on them probably get a new rear soon and go down to a 180. i also put new spark plugs in today so i will try it later. i will also go about 20 mph and rev to 6k. try different types of speeds and revs.

HisHawkiness 11-06-2008 04:47 AM

I always just throttle them up in 1st and shift to 2nd, balance it out then shift to 3rd....

My bike has always had trouble clutching up sit down wheelies in 2nd, i think my clutch might be a little worn out.

rbrais 11-06-2008 10:10 AM

2nd gear stand-up I hit about 6500-7000 rpm (around 70 mph), quick pre-load and roll it on no clutch.

BlackHawk996 11-06-2008 05:33 PM

i think the clutch was is wearing out, but its not my bike anymore so i cnat do anymore sweet vtwin wheelies... yet

Exactly. You need to pre-load. That's critical. No way you gonna pull a powerwheelie in 2nd gear on a stock SH.

filter69 11-19-2008 12:03 AM

5200 rpm 2nd gear about 57 mph grab blip run it out to about 104 grab third and pray like a mutha Fu*ker nothing fails at 130 on one wheel...
