Starting Problem. Please Help

8-9 months ago I replaced the R/R with an R1 model and the bike was running fine. I let it sit since and am now trying to get it going again. I had no power to anything since the battery was run down. I have a charger on, and when I try to start it i get a loud buzzing from the starter silonid. Could the dead battery be causing this even though I have the charger on and my multi meter reads 12v? or is there another issue?

Does your charger have a starting circuit (it'd probably be a switch you throw to start a vehicle with it) because if not, there is no way that your charger has enough amperage to start your bike.

Most chargers provide 1-2 amps of current.. you'd want something like 8 to 10 to start..

If your battery can recover by charging it overnight, you can try doing that and starting it in the morning.. but if you bike sat for a long time uncharged your battery may be dead.

Thanks,

I will give it a try in the morning. If i try to jump it with a car it should have enough amps? If that works then it is my battery. if not it is something else.

Just be careful jumping from your car.. I would do it with your car not running. Or if you really want to have your car running, start it before you hook up to the bike and only idle the car.

Do NOT start your car with your bike connected.

some one else just posted about doing that.. they fried a shit ton of items because the car was running. i would do a search about that before you try jumping it with the car.

I think your battery is stuffed. It will show 12v when just sitting, but as soon as you try to start the bike, the internal resistance is dropping the volts waaay down, making the solenoid chatter. You can charge it until the cows come home but it won't help.

You could jump start the bike to go for a ride but getting home will be a problem. The battery will still be flat
