Speed, Frighterning Speed! :D

hey just wondering what will my stock firestorm top out at? its a 2000 model, on stock cans and stock sprockets etc.
i wasnt realy pushing hard but realised i was doing 135mph mabe a tad over that on M61 the other day on the ride home with the boys. i had to back off tho as it was raining hard and our motorways have as many humps as a supermarket carpark!

what is the firestorm caperble of if its run flat out?

yruyur 02-13-2009 05:24 PM

Remember there is about a 5mph difference without having a speedo healer. In the rain...thats crazy. Stock, with a passenger I have had the speedo up to a little over 140 with a passenger. I have not tried since doing different pipes. Here are some high speed fly bys videos that we did last week, the red one was showing 135 I think Lazn on the yellow showed 140. https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ight=video+fly

Cycle World had it at 155 back in '98 and then again in '05 at 150. Like every Honda I've ever seen them test more than once they get slower every year. Why I have no idea. A friend back in '99 had a '98 jetted w/ slip ons he CLAIMED he had in on a radar at 161. I'm gonna say 150 is probably realistic. Back when I was dumb enough to try it I saw 155 on the speedo of a bone stock '98, and yes I was in the rain too-shredded the temp tag right off :)

AZZKIKER 02-13-2009 06:13 PM

mine did 161 mph GPS verified in six gear at redline with +2 on the rear sprocket.

Was there a cycle word review on the '05 hawk? If so, what issue was it in?

haknslash 02-15-2009 09:02 AM

I've had mine up around 153-155 or so (speedo indicated) once or twice when I first got her just to see what she had. It could of gone maybe a little more but not much in stock gearing on mine. She is an 02. I never ride that fast on it of course but had to try it at least once. The VTR is much more happy blasting out of corners and cresting hills on one wheel.

cameron 02-15-2009 02:41 PM

ive seen 135mph easily but just havent pushed it any harder. i dont think ill use all this hawks got but its nice to know its got more balls than me.

Otto Man 02-15-2009 09:46 PM

About 150-155 indicated and the chicken is out of wind. My zx-10 has no probleming pegging 186 indicated (Bone stock)

98ILVTR 02-15-2009 09:49 PM

Speedo indicated, I have done 145mph, but I just don't feel comfortable to do it all that often, considering some of the drivers out there. I will oblige to a nice set of curves anyday!

Truckinduc 02-15-2009 09:51 PM

mine hit 3.74 mph when i rolled down the hill today.

Going back up the hill was much slower. I thought v2's were supposed to be torqey

Sorry my mistake it was an '04. It was in the 10/04 issue they pitted it against a Ducati SS1000. They picked the Ducati even though the 8 year old superhawk will still spank it...said it was a more "involving tool," and that it was the bike "you want to lay your hands on." They must've meant valve adjustments...

I had the same problem, undo the parking brake and you'll get at least 8 or 9 mph down a steep hill

That and pull in the clutch.. engine braking is a bitch!..

Cleveland 02-16-2009 07:06 AM

Mine: 2000 stock gearing, slip ons.. Saw (indicated) 155. I was tucked in REAL tight, and she might've had a hair more in her... but after a couple miles to get there, I lost nerve.

On a side note.. It's a shame we feel like we have to list things like "(indicated)".. I mean we all know that the speedos are off alittle.. on EVERYTHING. But still I feel like I have to put that disclaimer in, or else I'll catch flak...

Death Cattle 02-16-2009 07:56 AM

mine topped out at 140 a couple thousand rpm's before redline with a speedohealer.

VTRsurfer 02-16-2009 08:35 AM

135 indicated and climbing in 6th with some cross wind when I ran out of road 1 1/2 years ago. I haven't had the right conditions since (long, straight road with good visibility, no cars and no side entrances). '05, all stock performance wise.

CentralCoaster 02-16-2009 08:44 AM

I should give it a shot. I can tuck pretty damn well and I weigh nothing.

One of these days I'll find some nice open road to open it up on. I figure anything over 100mph and you'll probably die anyways if something goes wrong, so what's another 50 mph? I would be amazed if the bike tops out only at 150 actual, but I honestly don't know how inaccurate my speedo is. Mine is a 98 too and well broken in, so maybe that is the best combination?

So who's gonna hold the radar? Maybe I'll ask the next cop that pulls me over.

Tweety 02-16-2009 09:27 AM

I did 159 verified with timing/radar on a closed of airstrip... It was a "speed festival", so there was the legal and controlled option to try it...

that was a stock engine, I think it was de-baffled & re-jetted but that's about it... Stock gearing so it took forever to reach it... But it got there...

Stevebis1 02-16-2009 10:06 AM

Read through with interest - wasn't going to post anything as I am still new to the SHawk and have only seen an indicated 130

But as I scrolled up to click back to the forum, saw a headliner add for "Rubber and Plastic Speed bumps" !
Don't think we are going to buy any...

Ummmm.........

With 15/41 gearing, a taller touring screen, stock engine with Jardines and a very accurately calibrated speedo, mine pulls 230kmh (143mph) at 9000 in top gear. I reckon I could squeeze a bit more if I wore leathers to reduce drag.
The screen makes a fair difference. Looks a bit daggy but works well.

Whats it feel like at 150+? I have only ever had it up to about 120mph, not that big into straight line speed. I've had an r6 up to about 140mph (speedo indicated) and it felt the same as about 100mph. It felt pretty solid there though. Any shakes or wobbles, or anything I should expect if I ever find a long enough stretch?

It's pretty windy, and your side vision goes out the window, because everything turns into a blur.

I'd recommend ear plugs, and the tightest tuck you can get. If you look up over 130 or so, it feels like your neck is gonna snap!

JamieDaugherty 06-28-2009 06:31 PM

At Mid-Ohio I'll hit 145+ on the straight, but there's still plenty left. Even stock they will do 165 no problem.

Circuit_Burner 06-29-2009 08:00 AM

I did 150 indicated airspeed easy.
THings start to get blurry after that.

rhorsley 06-29-2009 10:04 AM

I'm running Jardine high mounts and K&N filter with -1/+2 sprockets and regularly do 140-145 (depending on ambient temperature). I have a KOSO speedo which I've calibrated recently, so I know it's accurate.

Rhorsley, are you running the K&N with a stock airbox w/o the turbulence wind dam found on the stock filter? If so did you rejet it yourself?

Thanks,
RC
