Shopping Cart Rear Stand Build
 

Welp I thought I'd snap some pictures of my ghetto rear stand made from, you guessed it, a shopping cart. :thumbsup: This bike stand cost a grand total of $5, which is what I paid some lady who had a shopping cart on the side of her house. Also, it kept me in the garage this weekend rather than out at the bars, so I didn't spend my whole check, which means I can afford tires! It's a win win!


Here is said cart when I... acquired it... this afternoon.

Cut all this off with the sawzall

Welded on a couple supports.

Ground off the leftover bars and hit it with a little primer.

So here's how it sits right now, to be honest I thought this would kind of be a joke but it's thicker wall tubing than I thought, it all feels very sturdy, and I will have TONS of leverage. I can also take the front casters off if necessary.

Cut them down to size and sprayed a little flat black on my new paint stand... BONUS

I just wrapped the pegs in a bunch of electrical tape, we'll see how that holds up, but it's easily replaced.

So it works really well. Plenty of leverage so it's much easier than a standard small one, and it makes the bike very mobile when it's up. :thumbsup:

And of course if I want it's very easy to pop out the front two casters.

It occurs to me that...

After forehead slaps there will be a run on shopping center carts.
A wide footprint dolly under the front and yer mobile in the garage.
The basket, placed on wall hooks would be great storage for clumsy, large, lightweight stuff.
And someone surfing this site is going to draw up formal plans for the soon to come
manufactured version.

With security cameras everywhere, there's even the thrill of getting busted. "Well, officer, ya see, I just lost my home and now I need something to carry my stuff around in."

ahah with the basket, you can make a new custom grill for your pick up!
or use it to cook hot dogs over a steel barrel bbq..;D

Yet another senseless and avoidable case of shopping cart abuse. :(

looks good. It kinda looks like it would flip forward pretty easily since all your weight is just barely past 90 degrees above you pivot. If it turns out to be a problem it seems like a good excuse for model 2.0

well I thought about that, it really seems like it will be alright, it seems stable, but if need be I would just take off the front two casters and that would angle it down further.
