Scary....in a cool way!
So Im running Mich Pilot Roads....tires only have maybe 3k on em and theyre barely wearing...talk about awesome tread life. But apparently the sprockets and heavy torque band make this thing a death trap in the rain!
I get onto the highway, doing around 75 mph or so if I had to take a guess. I'm in 6th gear, and change lanes and get on the throttle (after Id crossed the lines)... Bike starts pulling hard from about 5k rpms.....and as soon as it hit 5500 rpms, to my shock, the bike revs up to 7000 and the rear end slides out. I inched off the throttle a hair and it straightened up.... Now, my old car was a mustang that would go sideways down the road through all of the first 2 gears....and I gotta admit it was fun. So I find myself thinking, was that a fluke? Maybe something on the road? Nope. Same rpm, every time. Scary....but in an awesome kinda way :D |

But I was able to repeat it 3 times in multiple lanes, northbound AND southbound...always right at the same rpm, 5400-5500, in top gear. |
Yikes.

hard cold rubber.....

Been there, done that... changed my underwear...

i had an 89hawkgt that i modded to no end.
one day i was testing on a side street around the corner from my house. the road was wet and i found the bike would spin the rear tire when ever i shifted.scary at first, but with a little practice i could go through all the gears.sounds squiddish as all hell. but taught me how to handle a slide when cornering. |
Sliding the rear on a hawk ain't hard... :) but the first time you do it you are going to get a pulse...:)
|
no but carry it through the corner on the power.
busa riding buddies were all like  |
(Homer) Mmmmmmm, toooorrrrque. Ahrgrhgrhghrghg.
:p Tweet - BUWHHWHAHAHAHAA!!!!!! Get a pulse. I gotta remember that one. Hilarious. :D Speaking of torque and pulse ..... (looks out window) ;) |

Think that's fun try it on a ZX12! But alot has to do with the tire. My first bike an old '80 cb650 that used to light the shitty kenda tire up really bad in the rain and I once slid on my ass on the wet concrete slab at a gas station.

the love of torque
i have same thing going on with my s'hawk. rode up at deals gaps tenn. post rain, rods starting to dry slightly, every turn i wanted to i could blip the go juice and kick it out flat track style, my bro's I4 could only do it with heavy revs and a lot of clutch action. loser

Either you are off the powerband, and nothing will happen... or you hit peak power... and all hell breaks loose... On a twin it's a lot more predictable... |
