Rider Weight

Read many forums regarding fork/shock/suspension upgrades. Are these mostly needed due to elevated rider weight? I weigh 160 and find the stock settings just fine.

I think the quoted "out of the factory" settings are for a 180 pound rider.

If the stock settings are good for you then I wouldn't even worry about it. But yes, rider weight plays a role in upgrades.

No, most of the mods are done because the front suspension does not balance well with the rear in the stock form. The front is too soft and the rear too stiff.

I weigh about 146 lbs. soaking wet and find the front suspension inadaquate.

RaceTech claims it is set up for someone who weighs about 115 lbs. Do you know anybody over the age of 11 or 12 who weighs 115 lbs.? In my opinion, the biggest F*ck up Honda made with the VTR is the front suspension.

yes...bigger guys like me need a little work for the suspension

The front matches 130 pounds, the rear 300... hence the need for work...

I've found the rear to be soft too. It's exaggerated by the soft damping of the stock shock as well. I've found the front to be pretty solid, even over the bumps in turn 1 at Mid-Ohio.

Lack of adjustability and when pushed to limits it pushes back! :(
