The new project is here. One of those, things got started then life gets in the way, projects.

At one point in her life she did sit outside for a long period of time, so the biggest issue is an oxidation layer on the AL and surface rust.

Other than that it is a complete bike with the exception of a right hand mirror, seat cowl and chin fairing.

The upper triple has been changed to a black unit and it has VFR bars, don't get excited though as yes they are coming off and they are already spoken for....

First job is to check the manual CCT installation, get the carbs squared away so I can get the engine buttoned up before pulling the front end....

Looks very clean. Doesn't look as though it's been dropped either.
Is that your tooth brush in the under seat tray?

8541Hawk 04-04-2017 09:45 PM

You can tell it has never been down......just more than enough surface rust to get out the trusty wire brush.

Looks like someone will have a good bike. Doesn't look too bad at all. Glad you rescued it.
Kudos to the owner for giving it up. Many would just let it rot away rather than let it go. We have all seen the hoarder with rusted out cars in the back yard. But often the right thing to do is to turn it over to someone with a space out of the elements and resources to get it operating.

Nice factory RR there.
But the original one on my bike lasted 18 years and 40,000 miles.

Edit. I see it has cooling fins. nevermind

8541Hawk 04-05-2017 09:39 PM

Yes it does need the R\R replaced but at least it has a later finned unit, so I would say the bike has been updated instead of upgraded but its good for now.

The main issues can be seen if you zoom in on the shock and the oil cooler lines.... Though I have an extra set of cooler lines.

I did set the timing and tensioners and all is good there. Though the valve cover gaskets were replaced but not glued to the cover. So it was off to the parts store for some hondabond and a few vacuum caps.

So far the only thing I have found wrong is opps more than a real "mistake" as it wouldn't have hurt anything, just caused a running issue in that they had inadvertently plugged the float bowl vents. ;)

I'll get back to it in a day or so, next up is finish the carbs and see if I can bring the paint back with some rubbing compound.

Fit the bodywork to see what is miss....just a couple rubber bits and 1 spacer.... The parts bill was a whole $40 because I also picked up a set of exhaust rings as I am going to pull the header and swap in my old stock unit.

Looking good mike... cant wait to hear it run!!

8541Hawk 04-16-2017 09:42 PM

Fired the bike up today, this one will be a strong runner.

Power to the gauges show a total of 6706 miles. All in all the new owner is real happy as she picked up the paperwork today and got her parts list.

Another SH will be back on the road soon....
