Impressive. 3.85's the most I've put in.
|
Wow that's cheap for gas. If I run her dry, I'll be looking at a 20-21$ invoice.......snif, snif.
|
3,5 for me but that was when I almost got 40 MPG
|
What year is your bike? I believe 2001 and up had the slightly larger tank

Jerry, what the heck are you doing posting erroneous information on the internet for!? The tank is 4.23 gallons. Sheesh...
|
Hey Mat, Maybe we should carry an 8 mm socket and ratchet so the tank can be pivoted up/back when low on fuel.

I think Tweety should design a push button servo motor tank elevator. ;-)
|
You guys aren't using your heads. When it starts to sputter, just get it up on the rear wheel and keep it there.
|
Gas caps for the pipes and fill them up. Why do I have to do all the heavy lifting around here?
|
This makes me a little uncomfortable now. In July I puled into Keno Oregon and put 3.85 gallons in mine. Looks like I was not far from pushing it.
The RLOD came on before I hit 90 miles and I filled up at 104. This was after really pushing it (about 27mpg). |
I've put in over 4.1gal and regularly run around 3.8-3.9gal at fill ups. I believe the 4.2gal spec is correct.

Interesting. What year is your bike? Wonder if anything was changed? Others have reported running dry before 4.1. My bike is an '03
I think in the later years the tank lost a bit of capacity, but don't quote me on that. |
Makes sense. Some companies do revision numbers on part numbers so you know if or how many times a parts been changed. Don't know if honda does that but it'd help narrow this down.

I know, I know we can never trust wiki but here is what they have to say about the Superhawks...
Model History In 1999, the VTR1000F received new, silver wheels. From model year 2001, Honda introduced a number of improvements. These included increasing the tank from 16 liters (4.23 US gallons) to 19 liters (5.02 US gallons), internal modifications to the front forks, black wheels, smaller indicators, an improved riding position thanks to less steeply raked clip-on bars and an LCD display for fuel level, engine temperature, dual trip meters, odometer and clock. A Honda Ignition Security System (HISS) immobiliser also became standard. The US market (Superhawk), never received the larger tank, but retained the original 16 liter (4.2 US gallons). In 2007, the VTR1000F was discontinued... Honda VTR1000F - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ----------------------------------------------- Ill "run mine dry" and see how much I can put in it.. :wheelie: |

If anyone is really worried about running dry with only 4.2 gallons available, I have this for sale because with my prostrate and bladder I can't use the extra 1.2 gallons it provides anyway...

With the stock jetting, air filter, fairing and sprocket sizes?

I am not sure about the jetting. I have not looked at it to see if it is stock or not. The gearing and filter are stock though as are the pipes. I have a lot of maintenance records for it and there is nothing about any mods. As far as I know it is box stock other than a PAIR delete.
I need to behave myself to get 44 and above. If I ride the way I want I get upper 30's maybe 40 if I am lucky on the highway. |

My '01 has 40K on it, stock jets, etc., and still is getting 43mpg consistently. I ride it easy most of the time, but occasionally stretch it out so it doesn't get too used to an old guy riding it. Yeah, it's the red one right there on the left.
