What year is your bike? I believe 2001 and up had the slightly larger tank

 

I don't think that's true for North American bikes.

 

It's an '03. I don't believe we got the larger tank in the US

rock it between your knees when it starts to sputter and youll get 4.055 out of it

cheap gas here is 3.55 gal..with reg 10% ethanol

 

This tip could mean the difference between riding and pushing up to the pump. I had to push in 90° heat with the latest 500ft. up a steep hill. Lucky someone came and helped the last 300. Thanks for the tip!

Hey Mat, Maybe we should carry an 8 mm socket and ratchet so the tank can be pivoted up/back when low on fuel.

Don't forget the piece of rope to tie the raised tank to your torso. You could hold the tank up with your left hand, but it would be a real bitch to shift

You guys aren't using your heads. When it starts to sputter, just get it up on the rear wheel and keep it there.

 

Gas caps for the pipes and fill them up. Why do I have to do all the heavy lifting around here?

 

This makes me a little uncomfortable now. In July I puled into Keno Oregon and put 3.85 gallons in mine. Looks like I was not far from pushing it.

The RLOD came on before I hit 90 miles and I filled up at 104. This was after really pushing it (about 27mpg).

 

I've put in over 4.1gal and regularly run around 3.8-3.9gal at fill ups. I believe the 4.2gal spec is correct.

 

Interesting. What year is your bike? Wonder if anything was changed? Others have reported running dry before 4.1. My bike is an '03

 

1998 - I've owned since new, tank is bone stock.

I think in the later years the tank lost a bit of capacity, but don't quote me on that.

 

Makes sense. Some companies do revision numbers on part numbers so you know if or how many times a parts been changed. Don't know if honda does that but it'd help narrow this down.

 

Absolutely they do! I think you will find the Honda part numbering system to be the best you'll find. Very consistent and easy to decipher.

Dont believe we got the upgrades in the USA

 

sounds about right.. thats how much Im getting on the city.. I cant believe when people get 40mpg.. Sounds like some thing toyota would say.. lol
I have the digital gas gauge.. does anyone now whats the last warning when you run out of fuel. Ive only seen it blinking.. Thanks

 

Engine sputtering

 

When light starts to blink u have a gallon left. When it stays on theres a half gallon left.

 

If anyone is really worried about running dry with only 4.2 gallons available, I have this for sale because with my prostrate and bladder I can't use the extra 1.2 gallons it provides anyway...

 

This was all highway. I get 29 to 34 city but I have gotten as high as 46 highway but 40 to 44 is more normal. The above referenced event I will say I was NOT riding 55 mph. I do not think I will elaborate further on that though!
