radiator demensions

Does anyone have the dimensions of one of the radiators on the VTR?

Or can someone measure theirs?

Thanks so much.

I'll go see if I can get something with the fairing on. What's up? BRB

nuhawk 02-11-2009 07:57 PM

This approx because the fairings were a little in the way. 6.25" Tall and 13.5 Long. This is the right side. I couldn't get at the left.

Im designing my subframe.

Im tryind to decide weather I should use a vtr rad, a vfr rad, an sv rad, or a vtx rad.

thanks man thats all I need.

That helps a ton.

Kai Ju did the under seat rad and says it doesn't give hot ass even in Southern Cal. There were pictures of his bike on the forum and you might do a key word search to see if you can turn anything up. It was pretty cool! Good luck!

ya ive studied up on his bike. He is using the vtx radiator. My tail will me Much Much smaller and I have alot of physical size limitations.

Oh shit! A VTX radiatior has to be huge by comparison. The Superhawk can be misleading when it comes to size. We set this shot up one afternoon at our shop and I didn't realize until I looked at it on my monitor that the VFR was the biggest, the CBR was in the middle and the most powerful bike (VTR) was the smallest.

I've been watching this thread daily and I'm rooting for you.
One thing in your favor is that V twins seem to be happier with smaller radiators than I-4's.

A couple of things to keep in mind:
Air never does what you expect it or hope to. (My side intakes are almost useless, but at least they look cool )
It's a lot harder to push air through the radiator than to suck it through. If you decide to push, make sure that you use fanblades desiged to do so.
I had actually fabbed up some pressurized side intakes that came through the opening under the VFR tank and dumped air on top of the radiator.
Didn't make a difference even though I had the radiator completely sealed off inside the tailsection to eliminate losses.............
I've also noticed, due to a levitating back pack, that the area behind the rider is a low pressure area and will eventually modify the tail section to take advantage of that. I am concerned about heat to my back though.
Who knows, your tailsection may just be the perfect solution and work without a hitch.

If there is anything you want to know about my bike, just ask.

well your vtr being the smallest is kinda funny, cause my vtr is gonna look tiny compared to a semi stock one.

Im planning on air entering up under the tail, going through the radiator, up and out through the top of the tail via the low pressure area.

The problem is that under the tail is also a low pressure area. I may have to re route the air coming into the radiator from somewhere else.

Im using a puller fan, or 2 if I can fit them.

When you say up through the tail are you modding the passenger cowl to be part of this plan?

I dont have a passenger cowl, but yes thats what im doing. Im building a full carbon fiber monoque body with the airflow characteristics built in.

off hand do you know the rough measurements of your radiator? VTX 1800 right?

ya thats HUGE. I think im gonna go with a vtr rad or a second gen sv 650 radiator.

steve.g 02-12-2009 07:33 AM

Hey Truckinduc, I've got a spare VTR radiator and fan assembly (Right side). If your interested I will swap ya for a set of your CCT's when you get 'em made.

Truckinduc 02-12-2009 08:35 AM

that sounds good to me steve.g

Without any fittings/hoses/attachments included:
6" x 13" x 1.5"

I can get better measurements tomorrow if you still need them.
