Quick Hello to all

Picking up a '98 SH tomorrow in Birmingham, AL. I currently live in Chattanooga, Tn. I'm 44 and have been riding most of my life and I just sold my second FZ1. The past few years I've gone back and forth between 3 R1's and 2 1st Gen FZ1's along with an SV650 and a Vulcan thrown in there when I temporarily thought I was ready to slow down some. Owned it for 3 weeks...

I've always enjoyed twins and have never owned a Honda, so this should be an interesting time in my life. I have a small group that we ride with around here and every weekend or at least every other we ride the Skyway and Deals Gap via the back roads from Chattanooga to Ocoee, Reliance/Greasy Creek and sometimes 68 through Ducktown. If you're located nearby, send me a PM and I can get you linked up with our 2 Facebook riding groups and we can have some good times and do some local mountains or hang out on trackdays. We have several WERA racers in our group and a couple of AMA Sportbike riders too. Hopefully the SH forums will be as valuable a resource as FZ1OA has been through the years.

I look forward to meeting some of you on the roads!
Brian

Welcome Brian.
Make sure to go through the Knowledge Base and soak up the info. After picking up your bike, check to see if it has a upgraded mosfet R/R and also see when the CCT's (Cam Chain Tensioner) have been replaced or upgrade to the manual CCT's. Besides the R/R and CCT's, set the suspension up for you and have fun! Be ready to get the torque of a 1000cc V-Twin in your blood, because it's addicting!

Never owned a Honda? Wow, thats awful. Now is your big chance. This is the best bike made in the last several decades, so enjoy.

Read around but my quick tip is to replace the regulator rectifier. It is probly not original so see if its mofset but if its not mofset, its gonna strand you eventually or sooner. You can throw an R1 unit on.

Picked up a 99 last night in Bowling Green for $1800 with 34k miles on it. Appears to be all stock with the exception of drilled factory exhaust. Will get some pictures later this week and post in members section.
First thing I noticed was the lack of front brakes, will have to address that quickly. Coming from Yamaha's the past few years it was a big shocker to pinch my fingers on the grip when applying some brake. I weigh a good 250# in full leather so the suspension will have to be addressed this winter too. Jerry I added you as a friend on FB, hopefully your the only Jerry in the TN area. Your pics had lots of bicycles in one picture if it is you.

The brakes on the Hawk are an easy fix. Some sintered HH brake pads and some braided steel lines will firm up the front brake remarkably. Some Daughtery or Racetech bits in the forks will solve your suspension issues.

Welcome

if you've never been 52 west of chatsworth in GA (fort mtn) isn't too far from chattanooga. I will probably be up there a bunch next year as well as a trip or two to the skyway and the gap. I'm in Rome GA about 2 hours south on 75. I'm hoping to be looking for a 650 vtwin (or maybe a 250 twin) to run some WERA and trackdays with next year. The hawk to me is a little too intimidating to run a track day on for me. Even just on the street on medium/hard acceleration I can feel the front end leave the ground.

Bike looks nice! Real clean man. I kind of like it better without all the decals. More sleek, especially in shiny black. Is the swing arm polished too?

(Here kitty kitty kitty haha)

No it's just the way the picture looks. Not sure I like all the polish though. It was too decent a deal to pass up though.

I used to live in Ellijay, lots of good rides out that way.

Great looking VTR. Sure wish Honda had finished the job on the fairing. That looks much better and so do the polished lips
