pushing the limits of the bike

This bike is pretty fun. been riding it a few weeks now (98 vtr1000f) and it's a blast. Unfortunately, i weigh about 300 lbs and the thing only goes about 145. Did a blast last night and only got about 18 miles per gallon haha. Oh well. Cook bike. Sounds mean with the full dual yosh w/ carbon pipes. Just can't keep up with those new liter bikes!;)

there's something to be said for 50 or so additional rwhp....

Have you tuned the bike recently? I weigh about 240 Lbs. and get 38 MPG. Clean the carbs, make sure they're synchronized, check the plugs, air filter, change the oil (recommend synthetic) check all your vacuum lines, the carb boots for vacuum leaks and adjust your throttle position sensor to factory specs (in other words, make sure all your maintenance is up to date and the bike is running at factory specs.)

Learn to turn. The twisties are more fun than a straight line.

18mpg is pretty rough. I don't think I've gotten that low. Mine used to be around low to mid 20s.

My mistake then. How's riding with a broken/healing ankle? I went on a couple rides with my ankle that was all jacked up from torn ligaments, and it was ok. Couldn't put too much pressure on the pegs though.

I had a real problem getting in the "proper" position with my right ankle after my get off. I'm just now starting to be comfortable turning right it's finally more second nature then the extreme concentration it used to take. How you healing up?
