Possible purchase !! Looks promising

:draggin:
This bike is 2 miles from my house. 98 Honda Superhawk 996 Price looks a little high. I like the fact it is unmolested. I would offer $2800. What would you offer ? Don't know much about these bikes. What should I look for other than oil leaks, crash damage ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!

At this point on each head:

Look to see if it has oem cam chain tensioners. Here is the difference:

If there're oem, they need changed to prevent possible major engine damage. There is only one other issue with the hawk that is easily remedied (search R/R). Looks like a good one! $3000 doesn't seem unfair IMHO.

100% stock except for the red-painted chin fairing, the crash sliders, the tank pad, the rear hugger, the missing pillion cover, the mirror extenders, what look like Heli-Bars, maybe braided brake lines and that brake lever just doesn't look quite right, but it's hard to tell in the picture. None of these things are bad except the missing pillion cover which he may have, just sayin'.

It does look clean in the picture, but everything looks clean in the picture. And the CCT's look like OEM unless they're modded OEM's. No, wait, it's 100% stock.

I think $2800 is still high. Nothing is like new after 20,000 miles. But, I'm in the midwest and I'm a cheap bastard. There seems to be a wide price range on these bikes depending on location, of course, condition and how bad one wants one.

Good luck. Hope it works out.

Completely depends on what it looks like in person and how well it's been cared for. My friend just bought an FJR1300 and it was literally spotless, as in perfect paint and you could eat off the engine, wheels, etc. I had a hard time believing him when he said it had forty something thousand miles on it. But I had a friend with a dyna wideglide like that-50k miles and it looked brand new. And I'm pretty picky about cosmetics. Some people just take really good care of their stuff. If that superhawk was spotless and here in Florida I really wouldn't want to pay more than about $2500 for it, but I think he has a fair asking price.

I think that price is fair, and $2800 sounds right.

Bike looks clean, and it's close to you which is a plus.

What have you owned/ridden before?

I may be wrong but it looks like the bike has gixxer 6 pot calipers on the front. If so, that's a good upgrade from stock.

$2,800 for the fun potential of a Superhawk is the bargain of the century.
A new Honda moped/scooter costs more than that.
