Oil change on the go.....

In Vegas with my Hawk and needed an oil change before riding to Utah. Honda dealer wanted $57 plus I had to bring my own oil and filter (no thanks, Honda). No oil change place (pep boys and the like) would touch my bike... sooooo I went to Walmart tire/auto superstore and brought my oil and filter. Parked in the lot right in front of the Service center and walked into Walmart where I bought a $1.00 cheap 6 quart container with lid.

Broke out the tool kit and dumped the oil into the container then walked it over to the Service center where they recycled the oil. Brought the empty container back and dropped the filter into it, capped the container and gave it (again) to the Service Center. New filter, 4 quarts of oil and put the tool kit away and I'm off.... for $1.00 plus oil/filter.

Good tip for anyone traveling long distance.

good thinkin..........maybe you should have spent another $1.00 on a piece of foam and stuck it under your ass.

well "you're welcome"...see how polite i am. haha. Politeness and/or political correctness is not a priority for or to me, not that I have anything against it.

The reason I suggest the the foam prosthetic is that my wife was so uncomfortable on the bike that she bought a pillow at a dollar store so we could make it back to the house. Apparently it worked based on my examination.

I do my long distance stuff on an ST1300. Wife and I have done back-to-back 6-800 mile days many times... great, comfy bike. But even on that thing we had to stop at Target and get a pillow for her on our way from Utah to Michigan last year. Can't imagine the wife on the back of the hawk... mine wouldn't do it, never.

bummer if my wife wouldn't do it? Shit, now i'll no longer have her beating on my back when her feet touch down. Already have banished her for as long as a year for such behavior.

Yeah you have to love oil changes on a superhawk versus a full fairing bike. And I usually only check a dealer for prices on anything when I want a good laugh...

That's how I always do my oil changes. The plastic container prices vary through the year but usually no more than $3.00 a pop. With the laws in my area any place that offers oil changes is required to take your used oil for free. Gotta love it.

This is a great tip for doing a quick, cheap and ecologically responsible oil change while on the road. Thanks for passing it on.
