Ohlins HO701 Rear Shock Being Discontinued

Just talked to Matt at Ohlins in North Carolina. He said they are now only stocking 1 Superhawk rear shock per year, because that is all they sell each year. It is the top of the line HO701 shock, 3 way adjustable with remote preload. It is due to arrive on their shelves in a few weeks.

That is now the only shock that Ohlins has directly available for our Superhawks without getting into a custom build. MSRP is a little over $1200.

Matt said the Superhawk rear shock will probably be discontinued this year.

:(

but the bottom line is Ohlins has to make money, and by now with the newest of the hawks being 9 years old already, most people that wanted to add one to their shawk by now already have done so. it is a bummer but IMO a great upgrade. when i bought my bike it already had the ohlins shock but i did ride a stock hawk a few months back and its deffinatly worth it. id get it while you can before they become a rare jem. plus everyone loves saying something on their bike is ohlins. its always the first thing people notice on my bike. still a bummer that they are discontinuing the shock. i wonder what a custom shock costs compared to the HO701

I have the said Ohlins on my bike and it works well. I wish it also had high-speed adjustment, however. I wonder if it can be retrofitted (as can be done on Penskes, for example)?

Yes it can... However I have no idea about the North American Ohlins... I do my business straight with the main source here in Sweden... And it helps to know some of the tech/race engineers...

So we have a source with an "in" then?

I've run a Penske 3-way for about 55k miles which I just had thoroughly and completely rebuilt by Trackside Suspension Engineering* in WI (second service but 1st full rebuild) but the weather and work has kept me from completing cleaning, lubing bearings & reinstalling swing arm, shock linkage and new chain/sprockets and then go for a ride. Of course -10F and 4 feet of snow plus 10 foot snow drifts & piles may delay a test ride.

BTW you never replied to my last inquiry regarding SWMBO and your homestead?

Well, I suspected as much, as a buddy who has a suspension shop had added a reservoir (from a Ski-Doo race sled) to my stock unit which gave me high and low-speed comp adjustment. I guess at some point I may have to contact the powers that be at Ohlins and see what specific parts (ie. which model reservoir) I need. Perhaps next rebuild.....
