New vtr owner need help
Just picked up a 98 superhawk with 19k miles. It is going to the shop for carb work and a tuneup as it has been sitting over a year and doesn’t run right. I’m wondering about the cct issue I’ve been reading about. Is it something that would be cost effective to have done while the carbs are off. Also, where can I buy the ape manual ccts? I see a couple on eBay but don’t always trust eBay. Is there anything else I should have checked out while it’s in the shop? This is my second bike upgrading from a vfr750 so I won’t be racing it or anything. I doubt I’ll be pushing this bile anywhere near it’s limit.

Manual CCTs are a fabulous idea for peace of mind; I bought my Apes on eBay and they are fine, but as long as the basic design is sound any brand will do. They need to be secure to lock up and also should have an o-ring or similar to stop oil weeping down the threads.
You could also get the valve clearances checked while the carbs are out, and if you are keen on longevity, consider replacing some or all of the water hoses as they are now 22 years old. |
