new to vtr
Good morning boys and girls. First post, first ride of VTR1000 yesterday, after 38 odd years on an 85 GPZ900.
Bought this as a cheapish auction win, 2001 model with 47000 km's. A myriad of questions and answers about CCT, mine seem original and auto... is it kosher that after the 2000 model, the spring was better and more reliable in the Honda CCT. The bike itself has wonderful power compared to inline 4, and actually more comfortable than the GPZ on the back according to the mrs and the daughter. Bike needs some cosmetic attention with brushed touch ups on the tank, but the real concern for me is the frame showing spotty dark stains / corrosion like the bike may have been near the coast / sea. I will get the tank re-sprayed, wondering about polish or clean of the alloy frame. Over here in new Zealand. |
If it's an auto, doesn't matter when it was made, it's a timebomb IMO.
Welcome to the forum! |
another quick question, the VTR is a Firestorm here in NZ, not a super hawk, my 2001 is yellow and has no decals on the fairing which should be firestorm..... is this decal black outline with chrome silver look inner or black outline with white inner ?
Its dam hard to tell with all the web photos I have pulled up... |
can you post a pic of your bike

this is the bike I have been riding for about 38 years... |
When I look at pics, I see silver with a black shadow. Are you on FB? There's a guy, Ralf Haas that produces new ones. I've bought from him, very high quality.
|
yes, on FB, will give him a go. Thanks.

I have this issue on the VTR with the frame, not real deep pits, but you can feel them, anyone had experience with getting the alloy frame to resemble new / brushed finish rather than shiny mirror polished? I am thinking the bike was probably a lot of its life near the coast / sea breeze area.

I'm stripping the tank for a re-paint, but cant seem to take the fuel cap out of the tank, any ideas?

After some polish, you can carefully wipe the frame with whatever coarseness scotchbrite desired to get that brushed look. Or wet sand with probably 1000 grit paper, in one direction. Shouldn't be too hard to do.

for anyone interested, I have just received 2 x 14520-MBB-013 tensioners for about $49 USD each delivered to NZ, pinky / flesh coloured paint dot on them, should be the latest incarnation of the dreaded auto cct.
Company is partsouq.com And as an adder to the email I have dam well pulled the thin spring set key out of one of them...hopefully I can re-set this unit to closed piston position.... I should learn not to f--k with things. |
