Hi to everybody! Just bought my black 99 last night! 6000 miles completely stock ( not for long) . Was honestly looking for 600f4i ,and looking at 10 bikes in the last two weeks (all of which were dropped or dogged out looking ) I ran across the vtr . After about 3 minutes into the test ride I knew this is what I wanted! The torque is awsome! I have been riding a 85 vf1000r since 1992 , man what a difference ! Love the website lots of good info.

Well I got to really ride the vtr today for the first time ( did a couple hundred miles ) with a couple buddys of mine, one on a cbr 929 and one on a yzf 6oo When I used to ride my old VFR I had a hard time keeping up with the 929 on the twisties & on take offs ,not any more ! (could have probably passed him in a couple of spots in the corners)I always knew my old bike was holding me back. The only thing about the vtr I am not real impressed with is the fuel range . By the way how far can you usually go after the fuel light comes on? Also thanks for welcoming me the the boards.

If you own a 99' model then you probably still have the smaller tank, I don't exactly know but no more than 100 miles on a single tank. Honda made the gas tanks larger (capacitywise) and did some internal modifications to the front forks with model 03' (or maybe 02') and on. I have an 03' and every 100-120 miles (depends on how hard I ride it) I find myself at the gas station filling up again. Don't get dissapointed yet! My buddy's gixxer1000 does exactly the same, he always asks me how many bars do I have left when we ride together because he did not have a fuel guage, only an indicator light.

Only non-US bikes got the upgrades. All US Superhawks have a 4.2gal tank. Only upgrades on the US S'Hawk have been the digital gauges and paint.

FWIW, the gas mileage is directly proportional to your right wrist position. Unlike IL4 motors, this one tends to use significantly more fuel at higher rpm. It's a Superhawk. Use the torque of the V-twin and you'll find your mileage will go up. I'm jetted, filtered, and canned. I get about 120-140 BEFORE the RLOD (Red Light of Death) comes on.

Yeah, the fuel range thing is no big deal. I get about 120 bef. the light comes on. Can probably go another 20 after than. (Gotta strap on a jug of gas & check it out some time.)

Personally I don't mind... frequent breaks keep me fresh & hydrated anyway.

I also push the bike up more vertical on the side stand before pumping gas, which allows me to put a bit more fuel in.

Didnt think about sitting the bike up when pumping gas ( doh !) Maybe get a few more miles out of it. Still love the bike, I can live with with the gas mileage. A small price to pay for so much fun! I have never had a street bike that wheelies so easy in stock form. As of right now the only thing I want to do is change the exhaust to some high mounts ( probably jardines ) since thay seem to be the most reasonably priced , since two bros dont seem to be available anymore. Hey guys, just a heads up on filling the tank all the way. If you do this and get on it (wheelie) out of the gas station, or anytime within the next few miles really, fuel will go into the vent and you'll get vacuum lock in the tank. It's easliy remedied by stopping (not by choice) and opening the tank. You'll see fuel dribble out the vent line and you'll be fine after that.

I was just going to ask that same thing. I love those bikes. They are so cool looking. Dying to know what that big V4 sounds like with some pipes on it. I guess you must know of Daughertymotorsports.com-I see he's one of our members. Looks like they know lots about them and have lots of cool mods for them too. Always been intrigued by them.

sweet, my previous bike was a first gen GSXR1100, and I still love the 80s rockets.

My buddy had one of those, looks like it's in nice shape. I sold my VF1000F only 2 or 3 years ago, the V4 sounds like a Ferrari V12 IMO with the pipes on it.:twisted: Looks like an old FZR in the background too, one of the old Delta Box frame ones?

I think they still have racing clubs for the Ysrs out in Cali , but nothing in my area . As far as the little gixxer goes it was looking pretty weathered when I bought it ,( or I would have left it the factory colors)https://www.superhawkforum.com/galle...to=352&cat=500 so I painted it to match the 94 zx6e I had at the time. Unfortunately I had to sale the little gixxer to pay for the jardines & rear tire on the superhawk . At least it went to a good cause. LOL
