New Sargent seat
I now have my new Sargent seat with color matching pillion after a bit of back-and-forth with Sargent.
My SuperHawk is a yellow 99. In the past, it seems the matching Sargent yellow vinyl was C-011. That's been discontinued, so I ended up with C-015 after getting some yellow samples from Sargent. My first time around, I picked C-044, but when the seat arrived, the yellow was off and it did not match the C-044 sample I was sent. It was close enough that I don't think it was a different yellow; I just think it was due to a wide variation in dye lots or some other factor. I ordered a seat without a welt (referred to as topstich), but the seat I received had a yellow welt. It was returned to be redone and I asked to try a different yellow and went with C-011 the second time around. When I received the shipping confirmation email for the re-do, they still had C-044 listed as the color. I called and they caught it before it went out the door, corrected it and it still shipped that day. The C-011 it a good match. At some angles, it's about perfect, at others it's a bit off. Just depends on how the sun hits it. Of course, it varies with other light sources such as incandescent or flourescent lighting. My only disapointments with Sargent are that I now have a "brand new" $429 + $hipping seat with two extra sets of staple holes in the pan due to Sargent's errors. Also, two of the screws that fasten the rear cargo hooks under the seat push at the top of the seat vinyl. It's enough that you see two small bumps at the rear of the pillion area. You can feel the screws if you push on the seat. During the return process, I mentioned this and my concern that this may cause passenger dicomfort or cause a premature wear point and asked that it be addressed. It was not, in my opinion. I called after receiving the corrected seat and the rep I was dealing with said he mentioned it to the guys (who make the seats) and they said it was OK and not a problem. Do others with this seat have this same issue or is this something that has developed with newer examples? For those not familiar with the Sargent seat for the VTR, they have a front and rear set of fold-out cargo hooks under the seat. The stock seat has just the one (front) set. Not really sure what you're supposed to do with one set of hooks, myself. Other than those two whines, it is a very nice item and seems like it will offer better support and superior comfort. I'll find out after I replace a front head. Someone should make mention on this forum of the poor reliability of the cam chain tensioners. |
Your butt will thank you!

I don't think it's a laughing matter, you guys. My bike really runs like shit on one cylinder. No 3rd gear power wheelies or nothin'.

Come on, guys, it was a joke. Hoo kant spel cam? You've had how many years of Tweety and you still can't spell sarcasm?
I bought the bike from a friend with just under 23k on the clock. I knew all about the tensioner issue from reading up on the SuperHawk here on the forum. I figured the MCCTs could wait 'til the end of the season and that you were all a bunch of doomsayers. I mean, come on, it's only got 23,000 on it. Kind of neglected to calculate in the 14-years-old part of the equation. Lesson learned. I have a front head from 6t8amxetc from here on the forum. Now I just have to find the time for the swap and MCCTs. I have to echo many of your sentiments regarding this bike - this is the funnest bike I've ever ridden. My friend just wanted to give me my money back when the tensioner let go and undo the deal. Of course, I said no because that just wouldn't be right; but, there was a part of me that would be damned if I was gonna give him this bike back under any circumstances. And, before you ask, I put just under 1k miles on it before it let go. At least it didn't grenade itself. It really did keep running on one cylinder. Couldn't get the front end off the ground past 2nd gear after that, though. |

Who said cool?
I know it looks like it's doing a ton, but that's just the yellow. It's really standing still. |
Good god this thread has made me laugh! I'm glad the follow up jokes were intentional too.
Carry on... |

You had a Concours set-up for off road, huh? That's an odd choice. Was it yellow?

It needed knobbies and ground clearance. Sort of a yellowish orange (spatter) from whatever came out of my butt
