Hi

Im new to this forum, i just got my VTR, i have had a CBR900RR with 165bhp, and a Kawasaki Z750 with 125 bhp.

But i love the VTR, the engine is the best, love the sound and the torgue.

Im 33 years, from Norway. Little country in Europe.

In Norway the bike is called Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm, but it i the same as the Superhawk. 110bhp.

I jumped from GSXR's to the Hawk and at 38 years old (minor back problems) I never looked back. Enjoy the threads on some relatively "minor" modifications to get the bike where it should have been in performance as it should have been in the first place. Oh yeah, welcome.

Hi Dennis... I am from Canada, a big country in North America :) Our pre-2005 VTR's were known as Firestorms too (Later ones were badged as Superhawks). Your CBR900RR must have been an interesting ride :)

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. May I also suggest the www.vtr1000.org forum, it is based in the UK and is a bit closer to home for you (also full of great folks).

Yes, the 900RR was a cool bike, but a bit scary, it would do a power wheelie in 1st, second and third. And i lost my license with it:evil:

But, i had a lot of fun with it. Love the VTR, been on some tours with it, and the bike delivers everything i expect.

By the way, this forum is great, fun to meet peoplee that have the same interest, and the same bike.

...and the same colour too :)

I have done some work on it since these pictures were taken, put on LED blinkers in front. And painted the bellypan blue.

I want to do more work on it, and i`ll post pictures of it.

Any good ideas for some cool upgrades?

If you're wanting to improve the looks I would start with an undertail from mototeck or somwhere similar. Look around until you find one you like.

Yes, an undertail is nr 1 on the list. In Norway we have big license plates. So i`ll have to hide it under the tail a bit.

Also, i want new shocks in the front and rear.

There are tons of threads about suspension upgrades. I'd read up a lot before spending any money yet. If it were me I would take the time and make sure the current suspension is set up correctly for you and your riding style. Then if it is still lacking go with fork springs from racetech, put good quality fluid in at the same time and it will make a world of difference.

My point is, go one step at a time until you are happy instead of wasting a bunch of money at once like I did to fix something that might not be broken to begin with. $1,000 for a new rear shock is a lot of money, and most riders probably won't even notice the difference.

Actually, Drew, if this were an R1, GSX-R, or CBR-RR I might agree with you, though most riders WOULD feel the difference, it's just that most riders do not have the riding skills to require it. Being as the stock VTR shock works better as a paperweight than a damper I'm going to have to say that upgrading the shock and fork will be you're #1 "best improvement" mod to the Superhawk/Firestorm. A good shock can be had for $800, many times less if you find a good used one.
