Need help from WI vtr mechs

I would like to do my ccts before they take out my motor. The dealer wants around $600 to do em. If anyone in the milwaukee area would want to come and help/assist . I would be very grateful. There would be some cash involved as well. Still deciding weather or not to get updated factory ones or the ape's.

$600 is way too much, the local Suzuki dealer charged me 2 hours labor @ $78/hr...

The closest Honda dealer wouldn't even touch my bike because it was over 10 years old, what a joke...

Holy cow we split cases for that kind of $$.

I would never go near that dealership again for nothing ever!

Yea I thought it was a ripoff. I was expecting maybe $250 tops! Which is why im hoping for someone nearby to give me a hand with them. This really sucks. I just bought the bike, had the right side cover gasket star leaking really bad and to trailer it home this weekend. I just cant wait to get these few things taken care of and ride the bike without worrying. I already ordered the r1 regulator so I dont have to worry about that.

yeah! we need to take a poll to find out who's where? maybe you ought to start one to find out who's near you, huh?

I totally agree. Most other forums are broke up into regions. It would be nice, I didn't even know where to post this.

Where you at? I work at a shop in Belgium, just north of Port Washington. I start on summer crew on the 15th (there is just the two of us) and labor rate is $58 last time i checked. If you want it done before then, it would be a stretch. The back cct is easier to get at, the front is more difficult. I would even check into corse superbikes in saukville if you are hot to get this down the road. They should have better pricing than what you are getting.

Have you ever pulled the carbs off your Hawk? If so, you can swap CCTs yourself. The hardest part for me was getting the aluminum plug out of the inspection hole, then line up the cylinder for TDC, very slowly back the screws out that hold the CCT, and install your new CCT. Use the Knowledge Base section writeup for assistance. I pulled the valve cover doing my rear cylinder, but didn't for the front. Total time to install was something around 45 mins.

I live in Cedarburg, about 10 min south of Port. So not far away at all. I'd like to get them done soon. I still am trying to make up my mind on get the manual ones or updated factory ones. The dealer didn't know anything about manual ones... go figure.

autoteach 06-01-2009 08:07 PM

what color do you have. Is this the red one that i have seen traveling around

autoteach 06-01-2009 08:08 PM

Oh yeah, i have grad school class finishing up this week, the state track and field meet in la cross, and i was thinking of going to the race track this weekend. Maybe I could load it in my bus and do the cct's by the side of the track so I don't miss the races ;)

Atrain996 06-02-2009 05:18 AM

No , its yellow. Its a 98 but was repainted. which cct's should I get?

skoshere 06-02-2009 05:41 AM

I can attest that Bill (autoteach) will help you out good... He helped me retime mine after my botched CCT change...

skoshere 06-02-2009 05:46 AM

Bill - whaty days you going up to Road America?

autoteach 06-02-2009 08:22 AM

I will be heading up Sunday if everything works out. My biked is gimped right now and I don't think that this week will be its week. I am so stupid, I wish I would have fixed it in the fall.

autoteach 06-02-2009 08:23 AM

manual ccts, only for the reason that they are less than the honda's by a long shot. I put honda's in but I have infinite availability on supplies and tooling.

Atrain996 06-02-2009 10:15 AM

I found the updated honda ones at Beaver dam honda here in Wi for $56 a piece. Do you have any manual ccts?

skoshere 06-02-2009 10:30 AM

manual cct's can be purschased from ape. http://www.aperaceparts.com/

autoteach 06-02-2009 03:23 PM

I don't have any. As you can see from the APE site, the manuals are cheaper. I could order in some of the honda's, but its not like the manuals are high maintenance. There really isn't a whole lot of chain stretch happening on these bikes.

Atrain996 06-02-2009 03:33 PM

I ordered some manual APE's today. I'll get the gaskets too than. How much would you want to do these?

autoteach 06-02-2009 04:03 PM

Its probably worth 100 biggees for me to sideline the projects at hand to get yours done.

Atrain996 06-02-2009 05:04 PM

ok, otherwise any interest in bartering for a Moriwaki lower? It may be sold...

autoteach 06-02-2009 05:30 PM

Not really, I have carbon fiber tail cowlings that I have to sell. I have three that I made and would like to get rid of

Atrain996 06-02-2009 06:17 PM

Ok, no problem. I'll let you know when I get the parts in.
