More chain questions

I read previously here that our stock chain is a #530, and I am sure mine is stock (any way to check, I bought bike preowned?). With 18,000 miles on it, mine is about to be out of limits. Since my sprockets seem to be in good shape, it was suggested to me to just remove a link (or two) and keep using it. Has anyone ever done this? I do know it involves using a chain cutter just as if I was installing a new chain, and I can either use a master link clip (and safety wire it or "stake" the master link pins) Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Waste of time. If its beyond the limit, it's gone. Sprockets take some experience to read. If you'd like to post a pic, I'd be happy to have a look. But if your chain is truly gone, your sprockets are unlikely to be good. How many miles?

There is a possibility that it was installed with one extra link. You sould count them. Stock chain is 102 links.
